In a bid to ensure that every Nigerian is IT-literate, MTN Nigeria has
rewarded a Port Harcourt highway hawker, Idesit Udo, with a Samsung mini-laptop,
to help him increase his knowledge of digital technology as well as reduce
computer illiteracy among the youths. The campaign to increase digital
awareness, in Nigeria, began four months ago, when the leading ICT and
telecommunications firm introduced its Education Tour Bus initiative to bring
the youths up to speed with the latest innovations in terms of apps technology
and social media.
The Port Harcourt
campaign was the 18th in a series of national tour to cities such as
Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Akure, Ado-Ekiti, Akwa Ibom, Asaba, Calabar and more to
give Nigerians the privilege of accessing the Education Tour Bus, which is a
state-of-the-arts facility comprising audio-visual instructional technologies
that are meant to introduce participants to the latest innovations in mobile
apps technology and MTN services.
Idesit Udo, one of the
many beneficiaries of the Tour Bus largesse appreciated the kind gesture MTN
has extended to such ‘an under-privileged young man’ like him. He further gave
a hint of how he would use the mini-laptop he won to balance-up his knowledge
of computing. In his words, ‘this is a kind of surprise because I just
registered to participate not knowing I can win something’. ‘Anyway I will use
the laptop to learn more about computer system’, he added.
Aside from Udo,
several other participants, numbering up to a thousand trooped out to the Air Force
Park, Port Harcourt, where the campaign took place. Students from Community
Secondary School, ond located in Rumoumasi Obalaga, Air Force Secondary School and
the students of Command secondary School, were participants at the campaign.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Adline
Okeke, Specialist, Youth Segment MTN, reiterated the company’s commitment to
bringing Nigerians up to speed with global advancements in digital technology.
According to her, ‘MTN is committed to delivering a bold new digital world to
Nigerians and that is the thrust of the Education Tour Bus’.
