The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has accused the state Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, of masterminding the kidnap of the Chairman of the party in Port Harcourt Local Government Area, Mr. Ikechi Chinda, a former member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Chinyere Igwe and Mr. Allwell Ihunda.
The state Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Felix Obuah, told SHOWBIZPLUS the three members of the party were abducted by unidentified gunmen at about 8pm on Wednesday around Eagle Island axis of Port Harcourt.
Obuah, who spoke with newsmen at the state PDP secretariat on Thursday, alleged that Amaechi and the All Progressives Congress-led government were responsible for the kidnap of the party members.

A recent effort by the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria to return to office suffered a setback yesterday as the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, dismissed an ex-parte motion seeking his immediate reinstatement.
In a ruling yesterday, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, said it would not be in the interest of justice to grant such application without hearing from those dragged before the court by the embattled CBN governor.

N575m fraud: More troubles for ex IG, Ehindero as A’Court says he must face trial

The Court of Appeal, Abuja, has dismissed the appeal by a former Inspector General of Police, Sunday Ehindero, against the ruling of an Abuja High Court.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission stated this in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr. Folu Olamiti, which was obtained by SHOWBIZPLUS.
Ehindero alongside a former Commissioner of Police in charge of budget, John Obaniyi, had been arraigned before Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi for allegedly misappropriating about N557m belonging to the Police.
The trial judge, who dismissed the former IG’s objection to the six counts, ordered the accused to face trial to prove his innocence.

NDLEA arrests top comedian with drugs



  It was a shameful end for 54-year-old Ghanaian comedian, Musah Iddrisu also known as Charles Udunehi as he was apprehended by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for being in possession of narcotic drugs.
According to Chairman/Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Ahmadu Giade, the suspected drug trafficker was caught during inward and outward screening of Ethiopian airline passengers.
The NDLEA Commander at the Enugu Airport, said Iddrisu was found to have ingested 450 grammes of cocaine.
“The Ghanaian comedian ingested 450 grammes of cocaine on his way to Thailand.”
The Ghanaian comedian, Iddrisu revealed that he wanted to sell the drugs in Thailand.

Panic as Abuja-bound Arik Air flight nearly crashed

Another air disaster was avoided as an Abuja-bound Arik Air flight from Lagos was involved in a near crash yesterday evening at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in what a passenger told SHOWBIZPLUS was as a result of “control disorder” from the plane.
However, an official of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said no such incident was reported to the authority.
The passenger, who was onboard the aircraft, said Arik Air flight Number 155 departed Lagos and was due to arrive Abuja at 6.30p.m., but could not land due to what the cabin crew described as control-disorder.
He said: “There was heavy panic all the way with prayers that we survived as the entire passengers fell over each other in prayer.”
The passenger added that the plane spent more than an hour in the air before it managed to land.

Several students and staff of Federal Government Girls College (FGGC) in Buni Yadi, the headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area of the state were feared dead, while others being abducted by gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram terrorists are yet to be found.
The gunmen also set ablaze many structures in the school, the council’s secretariat complex, High Court among other government and private establishments including telecommunication masts.

It was jubilation galore in Uganda as their President on Monday signed an anti-gay bill that punishes gay sex with up to life in prison, a measure likely to send Uganda's beleaguered gay community further underground as the police try to implement it amid fevered anti-gay sentiment across the country.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni said the bill, which goes into effect immediately, was needed because the West is promoting homosexuality in Africa.
Museveni may have defied Western pressure to shelve the bill, four years and many versions after it was introduced, but his move — likely to galvanize support ahead of presidential elections — pleased many Ugandans who repeatedly urged him to sign the legislation.
Nigeria's president similarly signed an anti-gay bill into law just over a month ago, sparking increased violence against gays who already were persecuted in mob attacks.

US to seek extradition of Mexican drug baron, Guzman

Guzman, the leader of the Sinaloa drugs cartel, was arrested in Mexico on Saturday after 13 years on the run.
He was detained in the beach resort of Mazatlan without a shot being fired.
He is wanted in the US on charges of smuggling vast amounts of drugs into the country, but Mexican authorities are also likely to want to charge him.

More troubles for Sanusi as Odi asks court to arrest him over N39.7bn compensation

More troubles are currently coming the way of embattled and sacked Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mallam Lamido Sanusi, as the people of Odi recently asked the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt to summon and possibly arrest Sanusi and other relevant officers of the apex bank to explain why they should not be committed to prison for allegedly disobeying a court order.
SHOWBIZPLUS gathered that counsel to Odi Community, Mr. Lucious Nwosu (SAN), said Sanusi and others from the CBN were expected to appear in court over their refusal to release the sum of N36.7 billion compensation to the people of the community.
 The court had directed that the sum of N36.7 billion be paid to Odi community for the invasion of the area by soldiers on November 20, 1999.
Nwosu, who spoke with our correspondent in a telephone interview on Monday, said the court had invited Sanusi to come and explain why he could not obey court order.

N450m fraud: EFCC docks Union Bank staff



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned a former employee of the Union Bank Plc, Paul Onwughalu, before Justice S.S. Ogunsanya of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja.
The suspect, SHOWBIZPLUS gathered was charged on one count bordering on failure to conduct due diligence in financial transactions, a statement by EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said on Monday.
The EFCC said Onwughalu allegedly failed to conduct due diligence “in a mega scam that rocked the bank on 10 January, 2013 when some fraudsters hacked into its database and pulled out hundreds of millions of Naira.”
The anti-graft agency said the accused failed to conduct due diligence check on Dan Kawu Bureau De Change’s account domiciled in the bank, before authorising the payment of N450m to the company.

Court sentences killer policeman to death over N100 bribe



After several years of delayed justice, a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt finally sentenced a police sergeant, Clement Indyel, to death for killing two persons while engaging in a fight with a bus driver over a N100 bribe.
SHOWBIZPLUS gathered that two other persons identified as Ali Bello and Auwalu Kwale, bagged life imprisonment each for their involvement in the crime.
Justice Biobele Georgewill, who delivered judgement on the matter, said Indyel and the two others conspired to murder Chinyeaka Kamalu and Ugochukwu Harcourt.

Facebook chief executive officer Mark Zuckerberg said WhatsApp, which his social-media company agreed to buy last week, was “worth more than $19 billion.”
The mobile-messaging startup was “a great fit for us,” Mr Zuckerberg said at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona yesterday.
“Already almost half-a-billion people love using WhatsApp for messaging and it’s the most engaging app we’ve ever seen exist on mobile by far.”
The cash-and-stock acquisition would be the biggest by Facebook, the world’s largest social network, and the most expensive for an Internet company in more than a decade.

Otuoke is the home state of President Jonathan and Nitabai is the President’s adopted father.
Nitabai, who is said to be the compound chief of Jonathan’s family, was abducted by 10 suspected kidnappers about 9pm on Sunday.

Oke died under controversial circumstances while in custody of the Falomo Police Division, Lagos State, over allegation of N1.2m fraud.

The man, who was attached to the bank’s branch in Ogba, was detained for three days by the police over his alleged involvement in the fraud.

After over two years of delayed justice, an Ikeja High Court, presided over by Justice Lateefat Okunu has sentenced Akolade Arowolo to death by hanging for killing his banker wife, Titilayo Omozeze.

Arowolo was said to have murdered his wife on June 24, 2011 at their residence, No. 8, Akindeinde Street, Isolo, Lagos, while the matter was charged to court. His wife, Titilayo was then a staff of Skye Bank.
SHOWBIZPLUS gathered that the convict had come to the court around 9:30am by prison officials, apparently having a premonition of the fate that would befall him.
Delivering judgment today, Justice Okunu said evidence before the court proved that Arowolo actual murdered his wife in the matrimonial home, while she also based her judgment on  the forensic report conducted by Professor John Obafunwa. The report had said there was no way the deceased could have stabbed herself to death.

The decision to suspend the Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Sanusi Lamido was based on a report of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria dated June 7, 2013. The report was made after a review of Sanusi’s response to the query issued to him by the President over the apex bank’s financial statement of 2012. His response was dated May 20, 2013. More troubles are coming the way of sacked and disgraced governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN), Lamido Sanusi, who returned to the country on Thursday after attending an ECOWAS meeting in Niger Republic.
SHOWBIZPLUS learnt that embattled Sanusi, who was in the company of APC chieftain and former FCT Minister, Nasir El-Rufai, was quizzed by the State Security Service, SSS, at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos. His international passport was also seized.

The Presidency yesterday explained that the suspension of governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was not related to witch hunt, but alleged cases of impunity, incompetence, non-challance , fraud, wastefulness, and gross abuse of and noncompliance with provisions of the Public Procurement Act 2007.
According to the Presidency in a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, which was obtained by SHOWBIZPLUS, Sanusi’s sack by President Goodluck Jonathan was also not a deviation from the anti-corruption drive of the current administration.

 SHOWBIZPLUS exclusively gathered that Nollywood actors and actresses, under the aegis of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, have come under heavy criticisms for their visit to President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday.
A delegation of the AGN, led by its National President, Ibinabo Fiberesima, had, during the visit to the Presidential Villa, conferred on Jonathan the award of the Grand Patron of their association.
On the delegation were Mercy Aigbe, Chidi Mokeme, Monalisa Chinda, Stephanie Linus, Fred Amata, Joseph Benjamin, Desmond Elliot, and Victor Osuagwu, among others.
During the visit, Presidential Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, was busy posting pictures of the actors and actresses who were seen applauding Jonathan while they beamed with smiles.

APC berated for engaging foreign firm ahead of 2015 campaigns



The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed shock over the announcement by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that it has engaged the services of a foreign firm, AKPD Message and Media to boost its electoral chances in the 2015 elections, adjuring Nigerians to resist this attempt by the party to throw the nation back to imperialism, 54 years after independence.
 A statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, which was obtained by SHOWBIZPLUS said this was not only a clear justification of its stand that the APC is anti-Nigeria but another insult on the hard working citizens of our dear country.
“In engaging the services of a foreign firm, the APC has shown that it does not have faith in our people, our indigenous consultancy firms and the teeming well qualified, world acclaimed Nigerian professionals and technocrats.
