Residents
of Coal City of Enugu were last Sunday ushered into the Yuletide season
by a splendid entertainment show packaged by national operator,
Globacom. The company staged
its wave-making Glo Laffta Fest, acclaimed as Africa’s biggest comedy show, in the city.
From
about 6.30 p.m. when the show started until midnight, there was no dull
moment for the over 3,000 people in the hall as Africa's topmost
comedians and musicians thrilled guests at the event, which was
held at the Golden Royale Hotel's event centre, with rib-cracking jokes
and best of music.
Basketmouth,
the show's anchor, was at his best as he tickled the crowd with a
series of jokes from his rich repertoire. He commended Glo for sparing
no expense to give the people of Enugu such a first class
show in appreciation of their unwavering loyal support in the last 10
years. The crowd which gave Glo a roaring ovation said this was the
first time any company had staged such a classy show in Enugu.
Basketmouth
immediately yielded the floor to Bez, regarded as Nigeria's best young
master guitarist. Bez, with his three-man crew, dazzled the audience
with his mastery of the strings and the rendition of his
Stupid songs. After Bez's performance, Basketmouth asked
him to stay behind to back him up as he aped how American rockstars
behaved on stage to which the crowd applauded massively.
In quick succession, Frank the Don, Mayor and Oguns Baba warmed up the crowd until Seyi Law, who was performing in Enugu for the first time, raised the bar with his clinical delivery. While the trio of Don, Mayor and Oguns picked on the idiosyncrasies of the Nigerian Police in their jokes, the highlight of Seyi Law's performance was how Nigerian children can be stratified into different demographics based on their parents' professions. He recalled how the children of of "Pako" parents ( E social economic class) would recite alphabets different from how the children of parents in the ABC socio economic class would. The hall exploded in rancorous laughter.
Omawunmi, the Nigerian hiplife sensation, shook the hall with her energetic delivery of her hit songs, Adebisi Konga, Pamurege and

Can Talk, Senator, Funny Bone, Salvador, the Ugandan comedy genius and
Okey Bakassi also thrilled the crowd with their signature premium jokes,
before Wande Coal wrapped up the evening with his tracks,
Bumper to Bumper, You Bad, The Kick, Baby Face and
Rotate.
At
the end of the show, some members of the audience adjudged it “the
biggest and most hilarious in the history of entertainment in the Coal
City.”
The most revealing act of the evening was the superlative performance of
Nigeria’s female DJ, Nana Yatt. Nana added a breath of fresh air. Not
only did she rock the crowd with the hottest vibes, she also took to the
centre stage at a point during her solo performance
to display one of the latest dance steps in town.
The Glo Laffta Fest train will berth in Uyo this Sunday with another set of fantastic comedians and musicians.
