Ten
days after Miss Julie Harry, daughter of former National Vice Chairman
of the All Nigeria Peoples Party, late Marshal Harry, was kidnapped, her
captors have freed her.It was learnt that the kidnappers collected N2m as ransom from the family.Julie was said to have been released unhurt on Tuesday night around Ngwuoba, in Port Harcourt.Speaking on the telephone with The Punch on
Wednesday, the eldest son of the late politician, Mr. Sunny Harry,
lamented that though the abduction of his sister was reported to some
security agencies, they (security agencies) appeared to be helpless.Sunny explained that the family had to cough out N2m to those who abducted his sister in order to
save her life.He
said, “We had to pay the ransom because when you talk to the police and
some other security agencies, they appear to be helpless and it is like
every family is on its own as far as security is concerned.
“Since
we wanted our sister freed, we paid N2m to the kidnappers. Paying the
money to kidnappers was painful. She was released yesterday (Tuesday)
night around Ngwuoba in Port Harcourt.
“She was released safely without any incident. She is also in good health as nothing bad happened to her.”
It
would be recalled that Miss Harry was seized on December 1, 2013, some
metres away from her residence, while her Honda CRV was recovered the
following day at Rumumasi in Port Harcourt.
Sunny had described the abduction of his sister as one of the indications of the increasing level of insecurity in the state.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, who was contacted to confirm the release of Julie, told The PUNCH that he had travelled out of the state and could not respond immediately.
