Don Jazzy rocking at the concert |
With KCEE, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Iyanya, Davido,
Wizkid, Patrick Mathias, the MTN Song star Porsche Cayman’s winner and many more
on parade, at one of the biggest musical tours in Nigeria, Ikeja, the capital of Lagos city,
was thrown into a musical festival, over the weekend. The crowd of young people
and fans of Nigeria’s biggest musical superstars were treated to current songs
like KCEE’s top-of-the-chart single, ‘Pull Over’ and Sound Sultan’s ‘Orobo’. At
the SkyPower Ground, located in GRA, Ikeja, it was another great night that
clearly stated MTN’s intention to continually entertain the youth.
Patrick Mathias, a dark-complexioned young
man, stated unambiguously, with an outstanding performance that showed clearly
that he was destined for greater things. Having emerged the overall winner of
Nigeria’s first musical app competition, he seized the moment with a masterful
rendition. Nicknamed ‘Password’, Patrick
is an artiste who has continued to aspire to hit the limelight. He, originally,
wrote and recorded the song ‘Gobe’ which was later made popular by Davido.
Indeed, MTN has given him a platform to finally fulfil his dreams.
Tiwa Savage, fresh from her honeymoon, thrilled
her fans with singles such as ‘Love Me’ and ‘Eminado’. Like her, Don Jazzy,
D’Prince and Dr.Sid did justice to the growing profile of Mavin Records, after
the split from friend and partner, D’Banj.
Iyanya, who just returned from a musical
tour, had new tunes for Lagos. Extraordinarily talented, the MTN Project Fame
winner justified his current rating, among Nigerian hip hop artistes, with such
songs as ‘Your Waist’. In addition to an admirable performance during the
MTN-sponsored Corporate Elite Nite, the Calabar-born artiste left the audience
asking for more.
Other artistes, with exceptional performances
were Chidinma, Praize, Banky W., Jaywon and Sound Sultan, one of the most consistent
artistes West Africa has ever produced. Apart from the exceptional
performances, Lagos youths also had the rare opportunity of sharing the stage
with MTN’s musical superstars and performed a Karaoke for special prizes of
ipad and blackberry mobile phones.
The MTN ‘Loud in Naija’ musical concert
started over a month ago and had been held across the major cities in Nigeria,
including Abuja and Port Harcourt. After Lagos, the concert train of musical
superstars will proceed to Owerri before berthing in Ilorin, shortly before
Christmas.
