Chico Ejiro |
It is no longer news that prolific movie producer-cum-director Chico Ejiro has added another feather to his cap with the recent release of his latest film entitled When Dreams Fall Apart. What many, especially movie buffs do not know was that the blockbuster floored other equally good flicks in a keenly contested battle to win the Best Nigerian Movie prize at the just concluded Abuja International Film Festival (AIFF) 2013.
Speaking on the making of the movie, Ejiro noted thus: “The story is about child abuse and trafficking. It exposes the sufferings young girls go through in the hands of their madams. Also, it’s a love story of how a mother tries to stop her son from marrying the love of his life, by framing up the girl. I want to create awareness by letting people understand why they should raise other people’s children as their own. This movie will protect so many girls and correct many mistakes parents make. My wife produced it while I directed it. So many people give out their children as maids, unaware of the torture these children go through in the hands of their guardians. Child Abuse should be discouraged in our society. If the government is not doing anything to curb it, we in Nollywood are.
Shedding more light on the significance of the movie to the society, Ejiro restated that it was the right of every child to have quality education and good upbringing.
“Most prostitutes are victims of molestations because nobody offered them the chance to good education. Today, they are seen as sex hawkers because they are looking for means of survival. Who do you blame?” he rhetorically asked.
The visibly excited filmmaker of repute disclosed that the movie starring Uche Jombo, Vincent Opurum, Maureen Okpoku, Emmanuel Mensah, among others has also been nominated for other awards like Eko Film Festival and Black Film Festival set to hold in Geneva.
