Nursing children out of wedlock and hiding them in shame away from the public like a sore thumb now seems to be the in-thing in the entertainment industry. That burgeoning group of secret parents has recently been swelled with the addition of Eja Nla (big fish) in the person of self-styled Koko Master, D’Banj.
Dapo Oyebanji, 33, as he was christened now has a messy love child scandal dangling precariously over his neck. And the mysterious baby mama we reliably learnt goes by the name Ibidun. Angry Ibidun and her team have also vowed to publicly tell the world their story with exclusive pictures, if Dbanj dares to deny long hidden paternity mess. This comes at a period when a younger hip hop sensation, Wizkid at age 23, is just coming open with his two year-old love child, Boluwatife Ayodeji-Balogun.
During the week, Wizkid for the first time broke his own self censorship and publicly shared pictures of himself with his son whom he sired after a brief liaison with then undergraduate of North American University, Oluwanishola Ogudugu.
The news of Bangalee’s messy secret of about eight years reared its ugly head online in a damning report by a blog known as Famzin.com. But accusing fingers have already been pointed at the doorstep of D’Banj’s estranged producer and former best friend, Don Jazzy. Accusers have made claims of close ties between the producer and the little known blogger although no concrete proof has sufficed.
A description on its facebook page reveals Famzin as “Africa's 1st Social Network for African entertainment. Breaking African Celebrity & Entertainment News as they happen.” Apparently, that is all what the publishers of the blog want the public to know because their contact details are not disclosed.
Reaction from D’Banj’s camp
D’Banj has flatly denied ever siring a love child. “My brother, there is no iota of truth in that gist. Detractors are at work again. They have run out of ideas, now they want to play love child card. Somebody wants to run down D’Banj but God pass dem,” reveals a source in D’Banj’s camp.

“He has a child and it’s not a baby, the baby mother's name is Ibidun and she's the sister of Smokey, the guy that used to be in the group 419 squad with JJC. I know that and I’m very sure as D’banj even used to stay in her house. When he was in London and whenever she travelled, she'll leave him in her house and let him drive her car. He even crashed the car once when she was in Nigeria on holiday and they have a child together. I was at the naming she's not any of the girls in the picture,” he revealed.
Genevieve angle
It is not clear if superstar girlfriend, Genevieve Nnaji is in on the alleged love child shenanigans by the DB Records head-honcho. But it would only strike equilibrium between the two lovers because Genevieve also has a grown-up female love child, whose dad is not known till date.
Few weeks ago in a new publicity engineering drive by his minders, D’Banj confessed his wish to marry the Nollywood star. Hear him, “Apart from the fact that she is my friend, she has been a part of my success. There is no way you are going to tell my story that Genevieve’s name will not come up because she featured in my biggest song of all time, Fall in Love. So if E! True Story comes to Nigeria to interview me, she will definitely be called upon to tell my story.”
D’Banj was not done. “I would love to have Genevieve as my wife. We never can tell what God plans for us in the future. I have studied her and I realised that anyone that has her as his woman has found himself a treasure. Just like the Bible says, any man who finds a wife, finds a good thing,” he made no pretences. But an insider, who spoke with SHOWBIZPLUS on the condition of anonymity, disclosed that the ugly news of Dbanj allegedly fathering a secret love child, is currently threatening his romance with the poster girl of Nollywood.
Like D’Banj, like Wande Coal
Allegations of D’Banj’s love child may have overwhelmed that of his former Mo’Hits label mate, Wande Coal. It has also emerged that the dark-sinned singer is reportedly the father of a five year old son. Several sources confirmed Wande Coal’s paternity but the identity and whereabouts of the mother of the child and his son are unknown.
“I am just sick and tired of the hip hop musicians hiding their children. Elsewhere in other climes, celebrities flaunt their children whether within or outside wedlock with pride, it is only in Nigeria that our own is different. Even the Bible said that children are gifts from God,” an angry insider averred.
