COSON concludes week long intensive training

In its quest to provide cutting edge skills for its staff and to become the leading collective management organization in the continent, Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has provided its management cadre with a one week intensive training programme which ended in Lagos over the weekend.


The programme took the personnel through the different aspects of modern collective management including Licensing/Marketing, Membership and Documentation.

Mr. Robert Hooijer, the key resource person for the training is one of the most respected experts in collective management around the world. A former Chief Executive Officer of International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC), Mr. Hooijer was also for a long time Chief Executive Officer of Africa’s biggest CMO, Southern African Music Rights Organization (SAMRO). He has huge experience in the intricacies of collective management in both the developed and developing world.

 At the end of the programme, COSON Chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji praised Mr. Hooijer for his indomitable spirit and commitment to ensuring that the COSON collective management practice is top notch. He told Mr. Hooijer that COSON will appreciate his availability anytime issues arise which need his expertise.

Among the COSON personnel who took part in the training are Ms. Bernice Eriemeghe, Head of Finance and Administration; Mr. Vincent Adawaisi, Head of Membership; Mr. Isa Aruna, Head of DataTech; Mr. Chibueze Okereke, Head of Licensing; and Mr. Efe Enahowo, Senior Executive, Licensing.

Speaking on the training, the General Manager of COSON, Mr. Chinedu Chukwuji said, “I am very pleased with the great impact Mr. Hooijer’s visit has made on our management staff. As a responsible organization, COSON will stop at nothing to ensure that our members of staff are well equipped to deliver on our mandate. We are thankful to Mr. Hooijer for giving himself to the success of COSON and we look forward to more of such opportunities to learn from his expertise”.
