Navy nabs Aso Savings manager for impersonation, fraud

The Nigeria Navy has arrested a deputy manager with Aso Savings and Loans Limited, Victoria Island branch, Lagos State, Simon Musa for allegedly impersonating a Navy Admiral and defrauding his employers.
The spokesman for the Navy, Comm. Kabir Aliyu who paraded the suspect on Monday, said, Navy intelligence operatives arrested Musa at the headquarters of the bank in Abuja.
He explained that the suspect, who was arrested on July 9, 2014, had claimed during his employment interview to be the brother to one Admiral Musa in the Nigerian Navy, promising to get a deposit of N2bn for the bank.

According to Aliyu, the claim by Musa influenced the bank into engaging him because he gave the impression that he would be able to source for a deposit of N2bn from the Nigerian Navy for the mortgage bank.
The commodore explained that due to the pressure on him to meet the bank’s target, Musa often disguised as Admiral Musa on the phone when calling his boss, Mr Ifeanyi Uzor, to assure him of the N2bn deposit.
He said, “The suspect was employed as the deputy manager of the Victoria Island Branch of the bank on 27th May 2013 under the supervision of the regional manager for bank in the South-South and South-West, Ifeanyi Uzor.
“When the suspect could not meet the target, he continued to pose as Admiral Musa and demanded N2m from the regional manager, a condition he gave for facilitating the deposit of N2bn from the Navy.”
Aliyu added that the suspect was directed by Uzor to pick up the money from his brother’s wife, one Mrs. Liberty at the Abuja Branch of the bank, where he was arrested with marked N1.5m notes at the bank premises.
The Navy spokesman said representatives of the bank had alerted the Navy to Musa’s antics, adding that there is no officer in the navy named Admiral Musa.
Musa, who hails from Benue State, confessed that he invented the character to secure employment during the interview for the bank job where he was paid N350,000 monthly salary.
Musa who claimed to be a graduate of Accounting from the Benue State University, said he lost his job with Fidelity Bank Plc during the banking consolidation era of former Central Bank Governor, Charles Soludo.
