Late Aturu |
It has been unending tears and shock
since human rights lawyer and frontline activist, Bamidele Aturu was confirmed
dead.
SHOWBIZPLUSng gathered that Aturu died yesterday, Wednesday, July 9, after battling an undisclosed illness
at the age of 49.
The late Aturu was one of the
founding members of a political group called Democratic Alternative.
He made headlines as member of the
National Youth Service Corps, when he refused to shake the hand of a military
administrator of Niger State, Col. Lawan Gwadabe in 1988 during his NYSC
passing on the ground that the military had caused more harm than good to the
nation’s democracy.
Confirming his demise, a human
rights activist in Abuja told SaharaReporters that Aturu's death "has
created a huge void in the camp of those of us working to enthrone a solid
democratic culture where political power is deployed to serve the interests of
the generality of citizens."
