Following
what they described as sound track records, democratic disposition and
transparency in leadership, some prominent and grassroot organizations in
Rivers State have in their separate statements issued in Port Harcourt, called
on Senator Lee Ledogo Maeba to contest the 2015 governorship seat in Rivers
State.
According to a statement sent to SHOWBIZPLUSng, the
groups, which activities, membership and offices spread through the nock and
crannies of the State noted that the former Senator, who represented Rivers
South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, during his tenure,
distinguished himself as a dependable mantle-bearer, not only for his people
but the entire Rivers State and South-South region at large.
On
his own part, the Association of Better Rivers State, ABRS, said its preference
of the Ogoni born democrat is hinged on the fact that he singlehandedly
sponsored the Nigerian Oil and Gas
Industry Content Development Bill 2008 (58.81). The Association explained
that it is a Bill for an Act to provide for the development of Nigeria content
in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry; for Nigerian Content Plan, for Supervision,
Coordination, Monitoring and Implementation of Nigerian Content and for Matters
incidental thereto.
Similarly,
the Rivers Congress for Positive Change (RCPC) said it joined the vanguard for
Maeba’s governorship bid having been satisfied by his disposition and sustained
efforts to ensure total development and empowerment of the youths and the less privileged
in the society.
The
RCPC in a statement signed by its Coordinators, Chief Maxwell Ogbe and Comrade
Simeon Pepple, also recalled that Sen. Maeba served actively and very
prominently in his days in the Senate and made Rivers people proud, adding that
he took the Niger Delta issues to the centre stage of Legislative discourse so
much so, that both the Ogoni nation, where he hails from, the Rivers
South-East, his immediate constituency, and the entire Niger Delta became a
household name to all Nigerians and the listening International community.
In
like manner, the Goodluck Democratic Frontiers, GDF, and the Rivers Democratic
Alliance, RDA, said their decision to endorse Senator Maeba is a fallout of an
intensive debate and consideration of several factors during their enlarged
leadership forum held in Port Harcourt during the weekend, affirming that their
stance is a product of consensus opinion by all members and for the good of all
Rivers people.
Adding
its voice to several others, the Rivers South-East Youth Leaders Coalition said
Senator Lee Maeba has not only proofed to be a trusted and patriotic son of the
area but a detribalized leader, calling to mind that he fought for the
conversion of the Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori, to a Federal Polytechnic,
which the then federal government approved in principle before the end his
tenure.
The
youth coalition explained that Senator Maeba has convinced them that if given
another chance, especially to serve in the capacity as the Chief Executive of
Rivers State, he would do exceedingly well and to the satisfaction of the
various constituent districts and tribes in the State.
The
groups observed that entrusting Senator Maeba with the governorship seat will
further usher in the desired peace, security, empowerment and development of
the people and the area.
They
therefore called on the people of the State to without any hesitation fully
support and be part of the vanguard for the emergence of distinguished Senator
Lee Ledogo Maeba as Governor of Rivers State come 2015.
