As audition begins across West Africa, this weekend, for the
season seven of one of the most productive TV reality shows in Africa, MTN Project Fame,
students and major section of the youth population have began to show their
excitement.
SHOWBIZPLUSng gathered that in tertiary institutions like Ladoke Akintola University and
Yabatech, there are great expectations among the undergraduates who have already
started registering to participate in the show or see it on TV.
Speaking with some of the students this week, Akeem Adepoju,
a student of LAUTECH, was so excited that he would have another great time
watching the telecast of the reality show this year. He mentioned that ‘soul music
being my favourite genre and they sing that a lot, I just can’t wait to watch
the contestants perform’.
In Lagos, students from Yabatech were also enthusiastic
about seeing the shows. Either in the hostels or at the lecture theatres, a
large percentage of the youth who were interviewed said the show is their
favourite and have been included in their schedules.
From Saturday 24th May, auditions for the reality
show will begin in West Africa. Contestants will be selected from Ghana, Sierra
Leone, Liberia and Nigeria. The diversity of characters, talents and
nationality that grace the reality show has made it viewers’ delight.
This year MTN is planning to hold Project Fame’s concerts in
different parts of Nigeria before the opening gala in July. The concerts will
hold in Lagos, Benin and Ilorin. Meanwhile, It has been earmarked that the ICT
company’s musical ambassadors will be performing at the concert asides past
contestants of the reality who are currently doing well in their chosen
careers, in Nigeria and other parts of West Africa.
Perhaps, being the most productive reality TV show, Project
Fame affords family a relaxing time as it airs every week day once it begins.
Activities in the academy are telecasted daily on both terrestrial and digital
television stations in Nigeria and other countries in the sub region. The major
highlights of the show are the weekend’s performance and eviction shows.
The hosts are Adaora Oleh and Joseph Benjamin. Their
simplicity and compatibility on stage have, no doubt, endeared them to several fans
that also troop to the live recordings. As well, the likes of Joke Silva, Ben Ogbeiwi,
popularly called ‘Uncle Ben’ and Kaffy are active characters that enliven the
academy apart from the uniqueness of the contestants and their talents.
Notably, Project Fame is reputed to average at least one
superstar who makes it to the zenith of the music industry each season. In
Nigeria, Ghana and Liberia, Iyanya, Chidinma, Praiz, iMike, Kesse, Musulyn and
more are products of the reality show and they are doing fantastically well
presently.
The reality show ensures that contestants are well blended
and exposed. Their talents are brushed.
After more than 13 weeks in the academy, the youths would have gone
through a huge transformation.
