Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) calls for scripts on children films




The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) in an effort to address the current dearth of appropriate content for children in the film industry announces the opening of the call for submission of scripts for children films.


Note

1)             In submitting scripts please keep in mind that we are looking for only content that is intended for children and teenagers;
2)             The film will be shot in Animation format, consequently, the script should be written for Animation;
3)             The write- up should have a story and scripted format for Animation;
4)             The story should not be more than four (4) pages, double line spacing on A4 paper size;
5)             The submission is for a film of not more than ten (10) minutes duration per series;
6)             The story/ script should be in English Language;
7)             If the script contains content that is not suitable for this age group please do not submit;

RULES FOR SUBMISSION

1)             Electronic submission/PDF format is strongly preferred. However hard copy will also be accepted;
2)             The Story/Script must be your original work and any material used must be with written permission
3)             The script should be in series format;
4)             Only completed script will be accepted;
5)             Story/ Script must focus on the Nigerian Child as the audience and reflect our local content/culture and portray positive and nationalistic values.
6)             While the Corporation is not averse to scripts being submitted elsewhere we request that you notify us in good time if you have done so. Particularly if your script is accepted for production;
7)             You shall be liable for any loss or liability that accrues to us as a result of any misrepresentation of facts from you;
8)    Call for script opens on the 1st November 2013 and closes on the 13th December 2013.  All script should be sent to – md_nfc@hotmail.com


WHO CAN SUBMIT A SCRIPT?

1)                Individuals
2)                Groups, associations & companies etc
3)                Children/Teens that have a flair for writing;
4)                Nigerians in the Diaspora;

Note that an individual or group can submit more than one script

                                        TYPES/DURATION OF FILM    

1)                Animation                               -        Not more than 10 minutes
2)                Series                                                -        10 minutes duration
3)                Adaptations are also accepted.

EVALUATION OF ENTRIES

The evaluation period will be from 13th December, 2013 to 2nd January, 2014.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION

1)                Only scripts that meet the requirements laid down by the Corporation will be selected.
2)                Method of selection will be by grading and other criteria decided on by the Corporation and the evaluation Committee.

We will acknowledge receipt of your script immediately it is received. If your script is selected you will be contacted. Please do not follow up!

REGISTRATION AND PROCESSING FEE

For eligibility, participants must pay the following fees:

All submission must be accompanied by evidence of payment. Scan or photocopy bank deposit slip and send along with your submission.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY SCRIPT IS CHOSEN?
                             
1)    If your scriptis chosen you will be informed;
2)    You will be invited to participate in a special production training workshop in Animation preparatory to the commencement of the film production;
3)    The Corporation will retain all rights to the film and the writer will be given the deserved credit for their work;

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS/SUBMISSION HELP

1)                Question:    How do I submit my script?
Answer:      Email to the address in the Call for Scripts or send hard copies to the addresses supplied therein.

2)                Question:    What assistance do you offer script writers
Answer:      a)       Production of winning script.
b)      Tips to good storylines to help the writer meet acceptable standards of writing.
c)       Training in script writing for a few well written scripts. (With emphasis on children films)


3)                Question:    When will I know your decision?
Answer:      Only the winning script will be contacted two months after evaluation commences and the winning film will be announced in the print/electronic media and online. If you have not heard from us 3 months after submitting your script has not be chosen.

4)                Question:    Does silence mean I have been rejected
Answer:      Silence means you did not make it this time. But you can try again some other time.

5)                Question:    Should I follow up?
Answer:      No. follow up can disqualify your script.

6)                Question:    Will you produce my script?
Answer:      Yes if it is the winning script.

7)                Question:    What happens if my script gets a production offers from
another production company?
Answer:      You may accept if your script has not been chosen by us. If evaluation is still ongoing you need to notify us so we don’t waste time evaluating what we can’t produce.

8)                Question:    Can I submit to other organizations or producers calling for
Script?
Answer:      Yes if evaluation is still ongoing but you need to notify us if your script is chosen.

9)                Question:    Will you produce my script as it is submitted?
Answer:      The Corporation will as much as possible try to maintain the original script. However where this is not possible changes that will enhance the production of the film will be made.

10)           Question:    What kind of scripts can I send?
Answer:      This project is strictly for scripts for children films in Animation series format

11)           Question:    Is there a fee for submission?
Answer:      Yes.

12)           Question:    Can I submit a revised version of a script I have submitted?
Answer:      Only if the Call for Submission is still open. It should be accompanied with a note saying the 1st submission should be replaced. Fresh Registration & Processing fees will have to be paid.

13)           Question:    Who has the rights to the film to be produced?
Answer:      The Nigerian Film Corporation shall have the rights. In cases of co- production details will be worked out accordingly.

14)           Question:    When will the winning film be produced?
Answer:      Sometime in 2014. Dates will be announced.

15)           Question:    Who handles sales/marketing and distribution of the film?
Answer:      Nigerian Film Corporation will handle sales, marketing and distribution in conjunction with other marketers and distributors.

16)           Question:    Is there a prize for the winning script?
Answer:      Yes the winning script is entitled to a special training in Animation and a prize to be announced.

17)           Question:    Will I have credit for my work?
Answer:      Yes all credit will be given to the writer.

18)           Question:    Is there a second or third place?
Answer:      Yes, however the Corporation will keep some of the best scripts in view. If opportunities to produce some come up they might be considered. The Corporation will also provide some measure of advice and training to these scriptwriters to help them build capacity.
