Gov. Amaechi accused of mobilizing Judiciary Workers Union for strike action in Rivers

Gov. Amaechi

The Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has again raised alarm over plans by the Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi to mobilize the State Judiciary workers union to embark on an indefinite strike action with effect from Monday, November 25, 2013 to frustrate the judgment of the High Court in the legality or otherwise of the sacking of Obio/Akpor LG Chairman and his EXCO.

The party through a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media to the State Chairman, Jerry Needam said Gov Chibuike Amaechi having failed to get a stay of execution order at the Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt on Thursday November 21, 2013 felt the only way he could succeed to further pervert the course of justice is to incite the judiciary workers to disrupt the courts from sitting next week.

According to the party, the pecuniary interest in the imminent judgement involving the illegal sack of the elected council executive of Obio/Akpor Local Government led by Hon Timothy Nsirim was the same reason for the unnecessary and prolonged public holidays slammed on the state by Gov Amaechi since began on Friday last week and will last till Friday November 22, 2013.

The party regrets that Gov Amaechi would go to the extent of disrupting the social life of the state simply to score a cheap political point.

“We are aware of these surreptitious moves to continue with the needless and widely condemned public holidays in the state in order to cripple the court. By inducing the judiciary union leaders with filthy lucre to start industrial crisis without just cause or provocation, Amaechi intends to disrupt the judicial process and tie the hands of the judge from delivering judgment" the party noted.

By this desperation, without regard for the interest and welfare of our people including the future of our children, Gov Amaechi has left no one in doubt as to his intentions and motives for towing the path of opposition against his fatherland.

The party believes that grounding the education sector, the civil service and the state judiciary is only an iceberg compared to the barrage of orchestrated plots to destabilize the state for being opposed in his bid to actualize his vice presidential ambition .

We call on Rivers people whose welfare and resources are being sacrificed on the altar of personal political ambition to rise to the challenge and resist being pulled down by His Imperial Majesty, Gov Rotimi Amaechi.

According to the Party, "We’ll however continue to stand by the truth and what is right no matter the threat and wish to advise Amaechi to have a rethink and leave the judiciary alone to carry out its constitutional duties"

It’s just unfortunate that having declared over one week public holidays without justification and having been caught up in the web of his own self deceit, Amaechi still thinks he will continue to fool the whole state by diverting his antics and onslaught to the same judiciary through which he  rode to power.

This is unacceptable and will surely fail, the PDP declared.

We urge judiciary union leaders and workers to shun any attempts aimed at further dragging the state backward.
