At last, deejays succumb to COSON’s demands

After many months of negotiations, the leadership of the Disc Jockeys Association of Nigeria (DJAN) last Tuesday finally signed a copyright agreement with the Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) for musical works and sound recordings.

It was actually not an easy nut to crack for COSON as the djs  persisted  with strong points such that the bossTony Okoroji impressed by the their determination to get a better deal, praised the leadership.

Chief Okoroji noted that the agreement at a time when the Nigerian economy is under serious challenge means that the respect of intellectual property, which is the cornerstone of the new knowledge economy, is being institutionalized in Nigeria.
He particularly praised DJ Jimmy Jatt who worked tirelessly for the landmark achievement. Henceforth, every member of the association will obtain a copyright license from COSON with immediate effect while those engaged in any public performance of musical works or sound recordings shall at the time of such public outing carry on him a copy of their music copyright license issued by COSON for clarifications, amongst others.
