Glo Xchange: SMEs excited, hail initiative

Glo boss, Adenuga
A cross section of owners of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) have expressed enthusiasm over the launch of Glo Xchange, declaring that the mobile money super agent network is another huge income stream for their business.
At the town hall meetings held in Ibadan, Benin, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Ikeja and  Lekki in Lagos recently, the SME owners who turned up to register as Glo Xchange agents, praised Globacom for the elaborate platform which is aimed at deepening financial inclusion and promoting Nigeria’s electronic payment system.

Mr. Raphael Arokoyo of Real Imagination Limited who attended the Ikeja meeting, said: "This is a good means of economic empowerment for Nigerians....”  He was confident that the mobile payment option would catch on.
“There is no business without its teething issues.  When ATM started, it was difficult to accept.  But today, it is taking shape.  So, I believe that with the strength of Glo and all its partners, the mobile wallet will be a good venture,” he said.  Arokoyo said that his excitement about the product knows no bound, adding that “it is easy to operate a mobile wallet because it does not require high education. As long as the user can operate a phone, you are in business.”

He added: “it does not require start-up capital.  With Glo’s support to brand our shops, it saves costs.”

Another prospective agent, Mrs. Eucharia Ajaegbu who is a provision store operator in Ojo-Alaba, Lagos said Glo Xchange was a welcome development that “will make business transactions very easy. It will improve the earnings of small business people. I love it, and I hope it goes well," she enthused.

In her contribution, Mrs Mercy Nnamani, a teacher and provision seller in Ojo-Alaba said, “Glo Xchange does not need start-up capital.  With Glo's support to brand our shops, it is easy to run, and less stressful.  I believe it will thrive.”

Speaking after a very interactive meeting at the Lekki venue of the training, one of the prospective agents, an exporter and  financial services provider,   Mr. Osita Udoye said that after listening to the lecture he believes “Glo Xchange is good and profitable for agents.”
Prospective agents had similar lectures across different locations.  Mr. Alex Muia, Globacom's Mobile Money Specialist told the audience in Benin City that “a lot of people who keyed into mobile money when it was first introduced in Kenya are today millionaires in their own ways.”

“All it takes you to be a Glo Xchange mobile money agent is to have a small shop in a corner street in your neighbourhood and become the local bank for your community, where you live by registering customers, receiving cash deposits and paying out cash withdrawals like a normal bank,” he said.

Muia added that "to register as an agent, all one needs to do is simply pick up one's phone and SMS one's First name/Last name/City/State to 33003 or 08150033003 Or visit the nearest Gloworld shop or  www.Gloworld.com/Mobilemoney."

Partnering banks were also on ground at all the training locations to begin registration of agents.  Most of those who attended filled the form to sign on as mobile money agents and join Glo Xchange Network. According to the Head of Mobile Money Financial Business Department in Globacom, Mr. Esaie Diei, the Glo Xchange Agents will double as Glo virtual airtime  recharge vendors. Glo Xchange, in collaboration with the Mobile Money Operators, will be part of the daily life of any Nigerian because it will give them the proximity and convenience to access financial services in their neighbourhood
Glo Xchange is the easy, convenient and secured platform to carry out various financial transactions with the mobile phone such as depositing, withdrawing and transferring cash as well as paying bills. It was launched by Globacom in partnership with Mobile Money Operators to enable Nigerians use their mobile phones to send or receive money and pay for airtime, goods and services, including utility such as electricity, water bills and Pay TV subscription in different parts of the country.
