Dimgba Igwe: COSON mourns, hails his immense contributions

Igwe
The Board, members and management of Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) have received with shock the news of the passing on of veteran journalist Mr. Dimgba Igwe. Until his death, Mr. Igwe was the Associate Publisher of Entertainment Express and Sunday Express Newspapers.

Reacting to his death, in a statement signed by Mayree Uket and sent to SHOWBIZPLUSng, the Chairman of COSON, Chief Tony Okoroji said, “I was out of the country when the news of the passing on of Dimgba Igwe hit me. I have been a great admirer of this man of tremendous talent who never flaunted it. From his days as Mike Awonyinfa’s deputy at Weekend Concord to being co-author with Mike on different publications, I always admired Dimgba Igwe’s exceptional gifts, work ethic and dignified carriage. Some years ago, I had issues with the Sun Newspapers over publications that I disagreed with. It took the painstaking crisis management skills of Dimgba and the good nature of Tony Onyima and Mike Awoyinfa for the issues to be resolved amicably and for the organizations we led to continue to positively collaborate on different projects. The fact that Dimgba Igwe and Mike Awoyinfa remained brothers, friends and partners for many decades, through thick and thin, despite their different tribal origins, has been a critical source of inspiration for me and a lesson that Nigerians can love each other despite geographical divides.

“I believe that the unique kind of journalism propelled  by Dimgba Igwe and Mike Awoyinfa from the days of Weekend Concord, through The Sun to the era of Entertainment Express have contributed in no small measure to the recent soaring of Nigerian entertainment in all its forms. On behalf of all of us in the Nigerian entertainment community and on behalf of COSON, I wish to condole the family, friends and fans of Dimgba Igwe; his colleagues at the Sun, Entertainment Express and Sunday Express Newspapers as well as the entire Nigerian journalism family at the loss of a true master of the art of journalism”

Also speaking, the General Manager of COSON, Mr. Chinedu Chukwuji said, “Mr. Dimgba Igwe was a respected media guru who contributed immensely to the growth of the Nigerian nation. He will be greatly missed but we are comforted by the legacy he left behind”.
