Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State (FUNAAB) was
established on 1 January 1988 by the Federal Government when four Universities
of Technology, earlier merged in 1984, were demerged. This led to the creation
of the first two Universities of Agriculture in Abeokuta and Makurdi. The
university was awarded the best university in the country by the Nigerian
Universities Commission (NUC) consecutively in the year 2002 and 2003.The
establishment of the Universities of Agriculture was an entirely new concept
for promoting agricultural education and services for agricultural development

7. Ahmadu
Bello University (ABU) began in 1961 following the recommendation of the Ashby
Commission on “Post-School Certificate and Higher Education in Nigeria”. Ahmadu
Bello University began full operation in 1962, on the cites of these
educational institutions: the defunct Nigerian College of Arts, Science and
Technology, founded in 1955; the Clerical Training Centre, Kongo, founded in
1957; the Samaru Agricultural Research Station, established in 1924, and the
Shika Livestock Farm, started in 1928.

an Institute of Technology and was accorded the status of a full-fledged
University by National Universities Commission (NUC) on 1st July, 1971. The
University has continued to grow from strength to strength with a number of

various levels: Postgraduate, Undergraduate, Diploma and Certificate.
