PSquare with their brother, Jude |
Lovers of Nigerian contemporary music may be set for one of the most
heartbreaking stories ever. Things may have finally fallen apart between
Africa’s most popular twins, Peter and Paul Okoye otherwise known as P Square.
For one decade, the very talented entertainers have held the African continent and the world spell-bound with their music, acrobats and stage theatrics. From Zimbabwe to Kuala Lumpur, their music has ricocheted with amazing decibels.
Insiders alleged that the height of a simmering feud between the brothers was when they engaged each other in a physical combat recently at a rehearsal. Bad tempers and hot exchange of words flowed freely between the two, much to the bewilderment of their dancers and crew.
Sunday Express learnt that the inseparable twins rebuffed all efforts from crew members. Not even the passionate intervention from elder brother cum manager, Jude Okoye would diffuse the charged atmosphere.
It was already clear that there was more to the argument that led to the exchange of fisticuffs between the two brothers. Insiders said that the ugly episode was the climax of a series of silent messy battles that has gone unnoticed in the once peaceful family.
In frustration, Jude ‘Engees’ Okoye took his exasperation to his over 70, 000 followers on twitter. With his twitter handle, @Judeengees, he declared matter-of-factly, “After over 10yrs of hard work, it's over. Am done.”
Like a flash, those few words became the most popular and heavily discussed on blogosphere by fans of P Square. It is now the subject of wide speculations concerning the collapse of the relationship between Africa’s most popular twins.
Source of bickering
For a long time, there have been fears about the future of the twins when they became married. Will women or money one day separate Peter and Paul Okoye? That has been one of the greatest fears of their fans and well-wishers.
Insiders pointed accusing fingers at one of the wives as the current source of the war of acrimony that is tearing apart the Square Records family. Sunday Express learnt that the Okoyes at large had never been disposed to the marriage of their son with the lady who hails from one of the South West states. Insiders say that this was due to her overbearing influence on their son. The Okoyes were concerned about the unity between the twins and their successful music career.
P Square’s words for words
In a past candid chat with Sunday Express, P Square rationalized about their future. Their words, “As married couple, Paul and I might not stay in the same house anymore. Like every other house we have been having, our house in Jos is a twin duplex and here we have twin duplex. The truth is, Paul and I don’t mix business with pleasure.
I have a son and he respects that. He doesn’t distract me, both of us are into relationships, it doesn’t distract us, even sometimes, when something goes wrong, we ask ourselves, is it something that is affecting us. I don’t think marriage will bring anything between us. First of all, I am not saying we must live together, but whatever we do, we love doing stuffs together and anybody that is going to come into our lives, should understand that they met these people together, doing their thing, so don’t try to separate them.”
Success is something you never thought would come your way. Whatever we have today, we thought it would take us another seven years to get. For me, the future is now: I have seen it and I have no regrets.”
Peace-talk and reconciliation
P Square’s current ordeal is a sad reminder of a scenario that played out between estranged Mo’Hits partners, D’Banj and Don Jazzy. The two have gone to pursue their independent careers and have charted new courses.
Sunday Express gathered that spirited efforts are being made to wade into the lingering feud that is rocking the twins. EE learnt that communications has temporarily broken down. High-wired sources are said to be mediating between the brothers. While some have expressed hopes of reconciliation between the brothers a few others have expressed grave fears.
