The Office
of the Presidency has also denied the reports. “It is not true that he has
resigned,” said Reuben Abati, Senior Special Assistant to the President on
Media; denying that rumors that Gusau had left office after an altercation
between him and top military brass.
A similar
statement signed by Shehu Maikai, Press Director of the Ministry of Defence
also denied the rumored resignation.
“The
attention of the ministry had been drawn to a media posting on the social
network that the minister had resigned.
“I wish to
state, categorically, that the minister has not resigned his appointment,”
Maikai said.
“We thank
all those that have called to verify the rumour and reassure you all that Gusau
remains the Minister of Defence,” the statement said.
Gusua, a
former National Security Adviser, was sworn in as Minister of Defence by
President Goodluck Jonathan on March 5 along with 10 other cabinet appointees.
On March 8,
2010, President, Goodluck Jonathan announced the removal of Major General Sarki
Mukhtar as National Security Adviser and replaced him with Gusau
Gusau held
the same position during the most of the Obasanjo administration.
