Juju maestro, King Sunny Ade (KSA), Koko Master Dapo ‘D’banj’ Oyebanjo and Sax Specialist, Yemi Sax treated Lagos socialites and other premium guests to a grand seven-star performance at the KSA edition of the Glo Evergreen series on Friday at the prestigious Intercontinental Hotels, Lagos.

SHOWBIZPLUS can authoritatively report that from the moment he mounted the stage with his music ensemble, King Sunny Ade, left no one in doubt that he was there for serious business. He displayed his guitar dexterity with enormous prowess. KSA complimented his guitar wizardry with a rigorous and well choreographed dance routine.

The Glo Evergreen Series, an innovative concert series, was packaged by leading telecommunications company, Globacom to treat its premium customers to quality entertainment from the best of Nigerian music legends and contemporary music stars.

The KSA edition of the Evergreen Series was anchored by ace comedian, Gbenga Adeyinka, who set the tone for the evening with his hilarious, rib-cracking jokes.

Yemi Sax was the first artiste on stage, and he amply serenaded guests with classic tunes as he blew away on his golden saxophone.

KSA was next, and his band members did a good job of paving the way for the juju music king. They blended their rhythmic drum beats, guitar strings, and firm, yet melodious percussion to produce splendid vibes that evoked some African spiritualism.

Like the true legend that he is, KSA held everybody spellbound as he moved his feet nimbly and swiftly to the authentic African juju music belted out by his band. Taking his time, the Juju music king taught the guests a few unique dance steps before launching fully into his inexhaustible repertoire which had guests nodding and swooning in ecstasy. He left no one in doubt that he is the master guitarist, the juju music maestro and the best entertainer of his era..

He started with “Eku Ikale” a track which formally welcomed guests to the show before running through his popular numbers. With his hands on his waist, and moving in sync with his band members, KSA swiftly switched the tempo to a more upbeat tune, even as some of the guests got on their feet in excitement.

Joined by sexy female dancers, KSA launched into a thanksgiving song, "Mafowo yin e logo," in appreciation of God for his colourful career.

He cruised smoothly into his next song, "Great to serve the Lord," with himself and the rest of his ensemble giving a salute, before moving on to "I have a very big God."

"Alade ma Gbo," "Call me, that's my number," were some of the other hits delivered by the legend. The audience were transported through a musical time machine as Sunny Ade induced waves of nostalgic feeling through his classic and evergreen songs of the 70s and 80s.

Talented saxophonist, Yemi Sax, picked up the show from where KSA stopped and he didn't disappoint as he blew the saxophone dexterously, and played soothing, classic oldies to the immense delight of guests who danced to the relaxing sound as they savoured the delicious dinner.

By the time Yemi left the stage, guests were already flushed with enough fun to last for the night...but the show wasn't over yet!

Even before he appeared, there were different chants of 'Koko Master,' 'Entertainer,' 'Banga Lee,' ushering unto stage D'banj, who strode gallantly to the stage. Ever the showman, D' banj flowed seamlessly into his performance with glitz and swagger, and some 'kokolettes' in the hall immediately joined him by swaying to hid groove. From “Olurun maje o” to "Suddenly," and "Mobolowo won,' which KSA joined him to perform up stage, he performed several of his hit tracks in quick succession.

When his alloted time was drawing to an end and stage managers were signalling him to exit, D'banj asked for more by performing "Oliver Twist."

There couldn't have been a better way for him to end his performance, as members of the audience soaked in the unparalleled entertainment with gratitude.

King Sunny Ade got a befitting ovation from the appreciative crowd as he came back on stage to deliver more good music. The legend thanked Globacom for the great honour done to him by featuring him on the Glo Evergreen Series platform.

He commended the Chairman of Globacom, Dr. Mike Adenuga Jr for the recognition and honour done to him. While fielding questions from journalists after the event, KSA described Globacom as 'the greatest supporter of the Nigerian entertainment industry.' He noted that the Glo Evergreen Series will take African music to the greatest height."

In the documentary screened at the event, the Managing Director of Guinness, Mr. Seni Adetu commended King Sunny Ade for his outstanding contributions to the music industry and remarked that KSA remains an inspiration to millions of Nigerians.

A scion of the Soyinka Family, Mr Ade Soyinka described Sunny Ade as a musical icon worth celebrating.

"Glo is really Unlimited," a guest, Mr Lanre Buhari of MH Industries Limited quipped with pleasure," From providing quality telecommunication services, they are also world class when it comes to staging shows. I was here for the Ebenezer Obey edition of the series, and I really enjoyed myself, but with this, I'm breathless," he confessed.

Another guest, Mr Ore Ladipo of Newscottage.com was full of encomium to the Chairman of Glo for his passion of keeping good music alive.

"Please, when is the next edition of the Series holding?" a thoroughly pleased Mrs. Bimpe Omopariola asked her friend.

Globacom's Head of Post Paid Sales, Mr. Kamaldeen Shonibare stated that the Glo Evergreen Series was initiated as part of the activities to celebrate Globacom's success in the telecommunications industry in the last ten years. He described Glo Evergreen Series as “a commitment to the promotion and sustenance of African music, arts and heritage.”
