Senegalese born American
music superstar Akon and Nigerian musician/producer Don Jazzy topped the list
of Forbes Richest African Artistes which was released during the week.
In Partnership with
Channel O, Forbes Africa presented the top 10 most bankable /richest artistes
in Africa which had P Square, D Banj and Wizkid in the top half of the list.
The list which was put
together using factors such as endorsement value, popularity, show rates,
sales, awards, Youtube views, appearance in Newspapers, investments, social
media presence, influence and so many other factors, also had Tuface Idibia,
Anselmo Ralph (Angola), Sarkodie (Ghana), Ice Prince and Banky W on the list.
The credibility of the
list has however been called in to question by music buffs and showbiz
personalities. Popular On-Air-Personality, Freeze was among the slew of celebrities
to have disapproved the Forbes’ list.
“Nigeria wash wash don
enter Forbes. I believe Femi Kuti and Flavour belong on this list. Mr. Forbes
on the contrary, it’s not your fault. It is we Nigerians who believe the
daftest thing as long as they come from an American source. Mr. Forbes when we
are doing things let’s be using our sense. Kwam1, Asa, Femi Kuti and Flavour
are among many other bankable artistes” he vented via Twitter.
Also expressing
disappointment over the list, Tee Billz also questioned the absence of his
client and fiancé Tiwa Savage on the list.
Apparently upset over
the omission of his name, Davido also took to Twitter to express disappointment
in the list. "Forbes Balu," he wrote on Twitter in reference to the
list which also had his rival Wizkid. Replying a fan who told him Forbes was
not talking about artistes who inherited their father's wealth, an angry Davido
tweeted "Why be mad that my pops got money! Sorry ain't my fault! Focus on
the music! Damn, shits get annoying."
