Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter, Patrick Nnaemeka, popularly known as Patoranking has revealed the reason he entitled his new album ‘God Over Everything’ to his numerous fans worldwide.
Speaking at a media parley organized by Spice Digital Nigeria in Lagos on Friday, the reggae crooner said it was his strong belief in the power of God that influenced the title of the album, adding that there is nothing one does in life without God
According to him, ‘I want people to know that amidst having fun, love and the rest, God still comes first, hence the choice of the name, ‘God Over Everything\ .
“The album is about love, God, my life, where I come from and where I am headed’
“Even if you are trying to dance, just always remember that it is still God over everything. No matter what you possess, no matter what you do in life, No matter the amount of money I have on earth, it is still God.”
Patoranking who serenaded the music scene in 2013 with the hit single ‘Alubarika’, and has become one of Africa’s most celebrated artistes with his unique fusion of Reggae, Dancehall and Afrobeat, said “God Over
Everything” album has a song for everyone, for people of all ages, class and from all parts of the world
He said “ The song is for people of all ages. young and old.
“I want a four year old to be able to sing Patoranking’s music. At the end of the day, I want to make music, irrespective of the genre, irrespective of how it is being done. I just want to get it done, and get it delivered.
“I wanted to pay homage to my roots and also for people to have a taste of where I come from so that they can feel and understand me. So GOE is a music everybody can relate to And this also influence my choice of collaborators.
“I feature Phyno for my fans in the East, Olamide for my fans in the West and also everybody knows who he is. He is also a street guy like me; Sarkodie for my fans in Ghana, Wizkid for the international scene, among many others.
“I also have a pidgin track in the album for my fans in Ajegunle. So playing the music, you will discover that everybody has a stake in it So, I try to carry everybody along”.
In churning out the music, the dancehall sensation said he drew from the experiences he had garnered over the years, adding that it was like reflecting his own personality into the music in order to impact positively on the society.
On the delay in releasing the album and the challenges he encountered, he said it happened because he wanted to take his time to acquaint himself with his audience and also the challenges he faced from putting sounds together to points of losing creativity to write or record.
Hear him: “I just felt that I needed the acquaintance, that I wasn’t acquainted to the people. I felt that I wasn’t felt all over the country. In the South and the North, they didn’t know me. I needed to get closer to the people, and that was why I had to delay the album for a while, and we kept up dropping singles.”
In crafting the songs together, Patoranking disclosed that he started working on God Over Everything about three years ago, and that it was not an easy task but thank God that the route was worthwhile.
He used the opportunity to thank everybody who participated in the realization of the album.
