DRAKE

6 god Drake has etched his name in the history books alongside Michael Jackson. The Toronto rapper accomplished a noteworthy feat by becoming the second male solo artist to ever hold the No. 1 song and album on the Billboard charts for seven weeks. Drake did so through the continued performance of his hit single “One Dance”with the help of our very Wizkid and latest album Views.
Until now, Michael Jackson was the only male solo act to hold the No. 1 song on the Hot 100 chart and No. 1 album on the Top 200 for that amount of time. Jackson did so with his single “Billie Jean” and the iconic album Thriller. Drake’s new record is all the more impressive when looking at the other artists to maintain the top spot on both charts for seven weeks. The Beatles achieved the honor with multiple singles and albums during their illustrious career. Whitney Houston also attained this rare accolade with her song “I Will Always Love You” and The Bodyguard soundtrack.
Drake’s dominance on the charts in 2016 has already helped him racked up some records most rappers can only dream of reaching. The OVO Sound artist eclipsed Eminem’s third place spot for rap album with the most weeks at No. 1. Views has been No. 1 for nine straight weeks, passing Slim Shady’s eight week run at the top with 2000’s Marshall Mathers LP.
Drake’s album will have to be a monumental performer to match the actual record though. MC Hammer’s 1990 album Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em was No. 1 on the Top 200 for an incredible 21 straight weeks.----gidibase.com
