Soukous legend Koffi Olomide, 60, has been sentenced to a year in prison in Kinshasa, Congo for assaulting a woman in Nairobi, Kenya.

Koffi in a solidarity message shared on his Facebook page wants fans to use his photo on social media as a sign of protest against his conviction.

According to The Star in Kenya, Koffi Olomide was taken to court shortly after his arrest and charged with assaulting one of his female dancers known as Pamela. The Congolese singer denied assaulting her while his lawyer George Wajackoyah accused the police of manhandling the singer. Koffi Olomide later was found guilty and sentenced to a year in jail

Olomide’s performance which was scheduled during the 2016 90th Show at the Zambia’s Agricultural And Commercial Society, was cancelled following his incorrigible actions at the airport where he beat up the dancer.
The President of the management Committee, Ben Shoko, disclosed on Sunday, July 24, 2016 that the cancellation is a direct result of Olomide’s actions at the airport.

Meanwhile, the singer apologised for his behaviour in a post via his official Facebook page on July 25, 2016, asking for forgiveness, also apologising to the citizens of Congo who felt “dishonoured by this behaviour.”

He also apologized during his interview with Congolese national broadcaster RTNC.
Recall that Koffi Olomide was once convicted in 2012, after assaulting his producer Diego Lubaki.pulse
