Youthful editor of Entertainment/Sunday
Express newspapers, Azuh Amatus has been nominated in the Most Outstanding Film Journalist category of the African Film Development Awards (AFDA) set to hold
on June 29, 2013, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Organised by the Pan African Film
Development and Advancement Foundation, PAFDAF, through its registered project,
African Film Development Foundation, AFDF, the auspicious event is said to mark
a reawakening of the need for African sensitive filmmaking ventures and
will also further such sentiments in Diaspora Africa filmmaking projects
from concept to exhibition practices. In a press release made available
to Sunday Express, AFDA will run through Lectures/Symposium on African
Cinema, June 28; African Cultural Night also on June 28 and Awards/Gala Night
on the 29th. The awards after party will be on June 30 at Zanzibar Island.
According to PAFDAF's Tanzania
Country Rep, Jonathan Mnyela, Gambian President,
H.E Yahya Jammeh will be the Special
Guest of Honour, while Nigeria's President
Goodluck Jonathan will receive an
award for his outstanding development of Nigeria's
film industry, Nollywood. Special
Recognition Awards will go to Morgan Freeman and Whoopi Goldberg, among others
and will also award Nigerian Governors, Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta and Godswill
Obot Akpabio of Akwa Ibom States, respectively. The Senior Special Assistant,
to President Jonathan, Mr. Oronto Douglas and Youssou N'Dour of Senegal are
also
billed for recognition.
Barely one year after
winning the Best Entertainment Editor Award at the 2011 edition of the
prestigious Zulu African Film Academy Awards (ZAFAA), held in London, Azia,
Ihiala, Anambra State-born Azuh, has over the years bagged several awards
within and outside the entertainment industry.
Apart from winning the
keenly contested Best Showbiz Writer Award at the Celebrity Media Award (CMA)
twice, the amiable editor was similarly honoured by the Lagos State chapter of
the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) with an Excellence Award, for his immense
contributions towards the development of the association.
Azuh who was
recently inducted as a Special Marshal by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC),
is indeed not resting on his oars as he has further pledged his continual
support towards the Nigerian entertainment industry.
