BEAT FM OAP Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi who is normally cool and calm on social media finally snaps at an Instagram troll.
Oops! BEAT FM on-air-personality Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegihas finally cracked.
On Wednesday, July 6, 2016 Gbemi lashed out at an Instagram troll for calling her ugly by calling his mother ugly. It was a sharp and quick reply from the celebrity who hardly reacts to comments or insults online.
After one of her followers said she should have ignored the troll, Gbemi said "easy to say "ignore". You don't get insulted online every single day by people who don't know you.
Even though Gbemi rarely lashes out at people online she believes that it is very hard to ignore hateful remarks. On May 5, 2016 she tweeted about how people expect celebrities to deal with everything thrown at them with grace, and criticize them when they respond back.
"You open your social media and strangers are slinging insults at you everyday... one day you will snap...." she tweeted. She also revealed she couldn't upload her mums picture on her birthday following the trolling of a colleague's mother.
Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi and Adejoro Olumofin
Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi is surely feeling the pressure of being in the light. When she had her little incident with the Olumofin brothers in January, Gbemi did not say a word despite the harsh insults thrown at her. Lashing out at someone who said considerably less than the Olumofin brothers shows that Gbemi is no longer having any of it.
Why do celebrities lash out on social media and go on rants about trolls and people dropping negative comments about them? This question made me stumble on a former social media star Essena O’Neill who gave up social media last year despite having over 500,000 followers on Instagram and 60,000 followers on Snapchat. Why did she leave social media?
"It’s a system based on social approval, likes, validation in views, success in followers. It’s perfectly orchestrated self absorbed judgement. I was consumed by it" she said in YouTube video. Like what she said social media is based on social approval where people validate their existence based on likes, views and comments. A lot of people including celebrities get rattled by negative comments on social media. For some reason they desire to have good comments and positive feedback to help them validate their existence.
If someone says you are ugly why should that bother you when you know you are beautiful? Or why should you go into a rant when someone leaves a nasty comment on your Instagram page. That person's words doesn't define your existence or reality. Yeah this is the ideal way of looking at it but to be honest a lot of us, even celebrities have self-esteem issues.
That is why it is best for a celebrity not to live on social media. Tweet or post whatever you want and leave. Waiting for comments is just going to create an avenue for you to be miserable. Beyonce posts any photo she wants and is not bothered by any criticisms. If as a celeb you can't handle the heat the best thing to do is hire someone who will be in charge of your social media accounts. If you still can't do that, love yourself and ignore the noise.----Pulse.ng
