FIFA: Blatter to be set ablaze as bonfire effigy

Blatter Effigy

The Fifa president beat the likes of David Cameron, Zayn Malik and Jeremy Clarkson in a vote to decide who would be the celebrity figure torched at the Edenbridge Bonfire Society
An effigy of suspended Fifa president Sepp Blatter will be torched at one of Britian’s biggest bonfires in Edenbridge, Kent.
Blatter received 36.8 per cent of a vote to decide the identity of the celebrity representation, out-polling David Cameron, Zayn Malik, Vladimir Putin, Jeremy Clarkson, Nicola Sturgeon and Josie Cunningham.
The 36-foot ‘Guy’ has been erected ahead of Thursday’s event and portrays the 78-year-old holding a football, the World Cup trophy and a large amount of cash.
The Edenbridge Bonfire Society, who have previously created effigies of the likes of Tony Blair, Katie Hopkins, Russell Brand and Saddam Hussein, said: “Blatter was the obvious choice, really.”
“We did put some thought into who else it could be but he was in the news at the time the decision was made so we went for him.
“We started building it two weeks ago, and we are pleased with the result. We are getting better year after year.”
Blatter is currently suspended from his duties at Fifa as the fallout from an investigation into bribery, money laundering and wire fraud at the sport’s governing body continues.
