The Director-General of the board,
Dr Abba Sufi, told newsmen in Kano on Monday that the suspects were apprehended
between Sunday night and early hours of Monday.
He said those arrested included 60
females and nine males, adding that they were apprehended in three
houses along Abedi St.in Sabon Gari area of Kano.
‘’The suspects were arrested in
Niyagara, Gidan Coci and Maman Aburi houses, all in Sabon Gari area after a
raid by members of the board.
‘’Some of the women were arrested
and prosecuted four times even before the recent arrest, while some of them
were found drunk and naked during the time of the arrest,’’ he said.
He said the board would continue to
raid their hideouts with a view to sanitizing the places.
Sufi also said as soon as
investigations were completed, the suspects would be charged to court for
proper prosecution.
On beggars, the director general
said the board had so far repatriated about 300 beggars to their respective
states since the commencement of the exercise last week.
‘’We have so far returned about 300
beggars to their states of origin since we started the exercise last week and
it will continue until the situation improves,’’ he added.
