Nollywood veteran, Ejike Asiegbu is currently in a celebration mood and joyously chorusing “come and join me sing Alleluia, Jehovah Jireh has done it again,” aloud.
And the reason for the above gospel song from the talented thespian from Abia State, DAYLIGHT.NG reliably learnt, had to do with the surprise gift of a glittering Mercedes Benz SUV (350 ML), given to him on Sunday, May 22 by the founder and Senior Pastor of Champions Royal Assembly, Kubwa, Abuja, Prophet Joshua Iginla.
The burgundy-coated auto worth over N8 million was proudly presented to Asiegbu during the birthday celebrations of the amiable and philanthropist preacher extraordinaire.
Aside Asiegbu, six of his colleagues from Nollywood were also blessed by the revered man of God with choice wonder-on-wheels, as part of the activities marking his special day.
Elated Asiegbu, while thanking Iginla for the kind gesture, said the SUV gift came to him as a big surprise.
“Sincerely, I cannot thank Prophet Iginla and the entire Champions Royal Assembly family enough. My family and I are immensely grateful and thankful to Iginla whom God has used to bless us. I have never met him one on one before. This is just a divine blessing from a great Nigerian who is constantly touching lives with the words of God and his God given wealth. I want to call on wealthy Nigerians to emulate this servant of God who practices what he preaches. God will continue to bless him for honouring and empowering Nollywood practitioners and the less privileged in our society. Truth is that this SUV is a big surprise gift that I never expected.”
The other lucky recipients included: Jide Kosoko, Francis Duru, Alex Usifo, Ngozi Ezeonu, Thelma Nwosu and Sunday Omobolanle, popularly known as Papi Aluwe. They drove home Hummer Jeep 3 series, Mercedes G-Wagon and Mercedes CLS 550, respectively courtesy of large hearted Iginla.
Meanwhile, Iginla, who gave out 32 cars to selected Nollywood actors and cash gifts among others to the less-privileged, has opened up on why he made the historic move on his birthday.
Speaking on why he annually doles out posh cars to Nollywood acts, Iginla said it was because many of them are poor but many people erroneously think they are rich because of the kind of wealthy roles some of them play in the movies.
“So this is my own way of correcting the wrong impression,” Iginla said, adding that the fruits of Nollywood artistes are being reaped by pirates and challenged government to do something to arrest it: “Nollywood actors and actresses are our ambassadors; they have projected the image of this country positively and so they deserve to be treated well,” he posited.
Iginla also gave out cash running into several millions of Naira to the aged, widows, orphanages and also offered scholarship to orphans from nursery school to university level.
Iginla who disclosed that he has 782 widows and orphans he caters for every year, maintained thus: “The beauty of life is not in its duration but in its donation.”
