Many have been wondering why they couldn’t watch Manya, Wizkid’s latest hit song on his YouTube channel .
His contract with Sony Music has something to do with it
The terms Wizkid reportedly signed do not give him the liberty of releasing songs anyhow
It has been less than a month since popular Nigerian musician Wizkid was featured on hit song Manya and in that time, several things have happened.
First, some Nigerians were angry that Wizkid had sampled a classic Ghanaian song Ahomka Womu by VIP on Manya. Some even said he did not have the permission of VIP to sample their song. But that has been proven wrong.
Then came the confusion over who owned the song. The official title of the song reads thus: MUT4Y x WIZKID – MANYA this means both Wizkid and Mutay (one half of producer duo Legendury Beats) own the song.
But this may not be the case. Wizkid is currently signed to international record label Sony Music and they have the right to release music on Wizkid’s behalf either in Nigeria or overseas. Even though on Manya, he did all the singing, he cannot lay claim to the song because it is against his contract with Sony.
Perhaps this is why the video for Manya has been taken off YouTube. It had been posted on Wizkid’s official channels on the video sharing platform.
However, the video is still available on Mut4y’s Youtube channel where it has over 86,000 views and counting. naij
