Excitement as Laveda, Davido, others wowed Africa at Big Brother’s opening ceremony + USD 300 000 at stake

BBA Hotshots presenter, IK, opening the show with a bevy of dancers on Sunday

By AZUH AMATUS, just back from Johannesburg: No doubt, pretty Laveda sensationally stood out among the 26 contestants battling for the ultimate prize in this year’s Big Brother Africa (BBA) reality TV show tagged Hotshots.
In fact, she stole the show at the classy and well attended unveiling ceremony that held inside the newly built studio of Big Brother in the heart of Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sunday, October 5, amid glitz and grandeur.
The Tanzania beauty dazzled and mesmerized live studio guests and the entire continent with her expertise on the saxophone when introduced on stage to deliver her one minute performance as instructed by Biggie.
Laveda, who scored the highest vote for the night among her colleagues, did not only dazzle with her sax, which was stylishly hung on her neck. She also sent the hearts of men thumping and beating very fast with her above knee length slit gray gown, which revealed parts of her spotless legs and inviting thighs.

In fact, a visibly excited male guest in the studio, who sat beside this reporter, kept on hailing and calling Laveda “Sexy Saxophonist,’’ till her well applauded performance that was unanimously adjudged the best for the night, ended amid standing ovations.
Nigerian-born multiple award winning hip hop star, Davido also made his country proud, with a performance that reverberated round the studio and got excited guests asking for more.
Davido stood out among the other performing acts with his rendition of the monster hit- Skelewu.
Sincerely, he gave his country a huge voice and victory on a night the two Nigerian housemates in the BBA show – Lilian and Tayo, did not do enough, to raise the Nigerian flag above the other competing nations, thus being relegated to the background.
Interestingly, one good thing about this ninth edition of the Big Brother Africa was that it began with action and entertainment from the very first day. It also allowed the contestants the rare opportunity to proudly show off their talents to the continent, thus giving millions of viewers a glimpse into what makes them Hotshots.
Again, for the first time in the history of the show, viewers were allowed to meet the housemates who will be competing for the USD300 000 prize over the next 63 days, one-by-one, as they showcased their talents, live on stage, in one-minute slots with palpable tensions.
Amazingly, at the end of the pulsating display of talents, the visibly excited studio audience scored each performance with a mark out of 100.
Sassy Laveda, who scored the highest number of votes was named Head of House and would be the only housemate not up for eviction till next Sunday.
Amiable Laveda who led the top six pack was closely followed by Sabina, M’am Bea, Lilian, Arthur and JJ.
For emerging tops at the opening ceremony contest, ravishing Laveda who is currently the darling of viewers across Africa, is the only one not in danger of going home next week.
Biggie’s new house is obviously filled with creative minds, including musicians, singers, comedians, dancers, poets and fashion designers.
Sexy Lilian from Nigeria thrilled with one of Flavour’s hit songs, while Tayo tantalized with his poetic lines. Kenya’s Sabina and Rwanda’s Arthur also dazzled on stage with their rich repertoires of comedy, while Ghana’s M’am Bea wowed all with her fashion design talents.
Meanwhile, the fun filled and memorable night of unrivalled entertainment and networking began with presenter IK, who kicked off proceedings with a cabaret-style singing performance of his own. He was supported on stage by a bevy of beauties swathed in specially designed costumes.
Other continental super stars that kept the show and viewers alive and activated with their electrifying performances were: Emmy Gee, AB Crazy & DJ Dimplez with their smash hit Rands and Nairas and South African hip-hop sensation Cassper Nyovest with Doc Shebeleza and few others.
While the well coordinated live show lasted amid applause and plaudits from the studio audience, witty IK, intermittently connected with the housemates and brings live happenstances from the new house via giant screens mounted on the stage.
On several occasions, the visibly excited housemates, who were already unwinding and getting to know one another were seen relaxing, hugging and throwing banters amid munching of snacks and drinks already provided by Biggie courtesy of Endemol, the South African producer of the continent’s biggest reality show.
With the historic and memorable kick off of the show, Africans are anxiously waiting for who will be crowned the next Big Brother winner.
