The organizers of the maiden edition of the Igbo Excellence Awards (IEA) scheduled to hold on February 1, 2014, have postponed the event to a new and yet-to-be announced date.
The
decision to move the date was reached in December on the recommendation
of the IEA creative team and the newly constituted board of trustees,
according to the organizers of the event, Tobems Media Limited.
The
Principal Consultant, Mr Obembe said “We have been in correspondence
with a number of Igbo interest groups whose desires to be part of the
event are being threatened by the closeness of the date.
“We have
particularly been compelled by the appeals of some Ndi Igbo groups and
youth icons in the diaspora to give more time to accommodate their
involvement in the awards.”
Obembe, while sharing the journey so
far, also expressed joy in the interest that the Igbo Excellence Awards
has generated since its media launch on the internet on December 3,
2013.
“We feel so encouraged. We set out to get the word out
about a dream we birthed and suddenly it has become something the whole
of the Igbo nation wants to nurture to maturity. “
The IEA team
sees the new development as an opportunity to make even better the event
whose now popular #IgboExcellenceAwards trended on its launch day on
Twitter; "All thanks to the support from our friends in the media"
according to the team.
Obembe added that “when you are trying to
make history, you cannot afford to be in a hurry. We are happy to
embrace these many offers of partnership and support. We hope that many
corporate organisations would also take advantage of this massive
opportunity to reach their targets.”
Asides the new activities
that IEA 2014 would be introducing to accommodate its prospective
partners and corporate sponsors currently in discussions, all already
communicated information about the event, like venue and content, remain
the same.
The new date would be announced as soon as it is decided.
