Amaechi |
The Special Adviser on Media
to the Chairman, Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Jerry Needam says
a tiny number of Ogoni people pretending to be Gov Amaechi’s supporters are
hunger stricken beggars, contract seekers and visionless few who do not have
the interest of the Ogoni people at heart.
Speaking to journalists in
Port Harcourt today, Jerry Needam, an illustrious son of Ogoni, told SHOWBIZPLUS there
could not have been any other reason for what he called unholy alliance with
Amaechi than gluttony and hunger, stressing that it’s better to be honourable
in poverty than going back to one’s vomit to satisfy one’s hunger.
Jerry Needam recalled that a
few of these double faced Ogoni men now romancing with Amaechi had at several
fora and press briefings roundly condemned Amaechi and anything he represents,
regretting that these same men who had vowed not to work or have anything to do
with Amaechi are now claiming to be his supporters and mouthpiece in Ogoni
land.
The State PDP chairman’s
Media Adviser wondered what it is that they have suddenly seen in Rotimi
Amaechi that has made them go back to lick their vomit.
Jerry Needam said “comments
emanating from these fair weather politicians in Ogoni, who had since 1999
stood against Rotimi Amaechi, even when he was Speaker, Rivers State House of
Assembly through 2007, during the governorship crisis show that all they need
today from Amaechi is nothing but contracts, empowerment and political
appointments.
He noted that they must be
doing so for no other reason than to corner the money that should have been
used to develop Ogoni and the unequipped and abandoned model schools they are
counting as Amaechi’s achievements in the area.
Jerry Needam advised Ogoni
people to disregard the deceptive voice of these crafty unpopular political
executive beggars and contractors who are seeking relevance from Amaechi.
The Media Aide to the PDP
chairman warned them to desist forthwith from using the name of Ogoni in their
shameless journey, warning that genuine Ogoni men with courage and character
are watching.
It is unfortunate that
people who have lean reputation in Ogoni would applaud the actions and
arrogance of the State Governor against the patriotic advice of Ogoni leaders
like the former President of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People,
MOSOP, Ledum Mitee, former Vice Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, Prof.
Don Baridam and other revered Ogoni leaders.
It is also important to
state that the surprising support of these few political elements in Ogoni to
the activities of the Governor and his party adds no value to the political
scene, as their antecedents expose them as political boot lickers and can never
change from being such.
One therefore finds it
difficult to reconcile the latest position of these men with their actions in
2007 during which they conspired with others to drag Governor Amaechi to court
over the dissolution of the 23 Local Government Councils and the Rivers State
Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
The Media Aide further
cautions the good people of Ogoni to be wary of Amaechi’s antics who on
Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Bori, incited the people of Ogoni against the
Federal Government, President Goodluck Jonathan, and themselves, when he said,
“we should not vote for President Jonathan in 2015, and that anybody that slaps
them, they (the people) should slap them back and since the kingdom of God
suffers violence, only violent people can take it back”.
The PDP Media Adviser views
the above statement of Gov Amaechi as inciting and revolutionary, wondering why
a governor who claims to be democratic and progressive will incite the people
against a democratic government in which he superintends at the state level.
