The
music reality show’s past winners and runners-up, who have become household
names across the continent, like Iyanya, Chidinma, Praiz, Nicholas, Kesse,
Musulyn, Adetoun and a dozen others will be lighting up the cities.
Meanwhile, the concert is already generating excitement,
especially among the youths who have been clamouring for a live performance
from their music icons who they watched nurtured into super-stars, on the their
television screens. Notable among them is Iyanya who survived one of the
greatest odds, ever known, to become the reality show’s winner in 2008. He
recently burst on to the global scene with his ‘Kukere’ and peculiar dance
style. He has just returned from a successful tour of the UK.
There is also Praiz whose current value transcends all high-value
social engagements. His song ‘Super-star’ is as well in high demand among the
youths who are brimming with ambition. Most of these youths find his songs
highly intelligent and inspiring. Besides, his vocal ability is endearing.
Chidinma won the hearts of Africa’s music fans with her ‘Kedike’
afro hip-hop song. Since she released her first single, the determined young
lady has gone ahead to win a wider acclaim from authorities in Africa’s music
industry. Already, she has two albums to her name
Next is Kesse. This multi-talented Ghanaian musician is topping
music charts both on radio and television in the country. He is even expanding
into Nigeria and other West African countries. His debut single ‘O Yes’ is a
rare combination of rich lyrics and beats. He will be coming into the country
in company of Musulyn, a Liberian diva, who was a finalist on the reality show,
last year. She is also currently a media favourite in her home country.
Others too have not done badly. Mike showed a flicker of talent
when he released his ‘Fine Fine Baby’ single a year after winning the MTN
Project Fame’s ultimate prize. Adetoun is the reincarnation of Queen Abeni Salawa’s
extraordinary talent. She is already being taunted as a replacement for the
‘Waka Queen’
Need it be mentioned, as well, that these stars are already award
winners. Iyanya received the Headies Hip Hop Award last year. Chidinma has won
the most prestigious music award in Africa, KORA. Kesse was recently awarded
the Ghanaian Music Award, an equivalent of Headies Hip-Hop award in Nigeria
Apparently, in the next two weeks, these youthful products of the
most popular and productively enduring musical reality show in Africa, MTN
Project Fame West Africa, will set the Nigeria music scene ablaze with
audacious performances that are expected to be a shadow of what is to be
expected when the reality show itself begins later in July this year.
