Celebrated Nigerian comedienne Chioma Omeruah popularly known as Chigul could not control her feelings as she busted into tears during an interview with video director Kemi Adetiba.

However, many only know Chigul to be a playful comedian and a comic actress but many do not know much about her upbringing, family and her failed marriage.

The interview was conducted during the fifth edition of the program King Women. The comedienne opened up on her background, school and how she later moved to the United States (US) after she failed several school exams in Nigeria.

Chigul said: “I was born in Yaba, Lagos. We moved around the North and my late father was in the Air Force. I am the second of four children and the first girl. I went to Air Force Girls’ Military School in Jos but failed so my dad decided I would no longer school in Jos unless I want to embarrass him. So he sent me to the Air Force School in Ikeja, Lagos where I finished from. I later moved to the US where I stayed for 12 years.”

Chigul said: “I had little or no self-esteem and it affected me in a way that I saw myself become quite a people pleaser. I am a cover up queen. I will never want anyone to see that things aren’t working. I met my husband in 2007 and later found out we were family friends and after courting for a year, he proposed and we got married. Truthfully, there were happy days until it got to the time when he and myself did not care anymore. It took me a long time before I finally said we need a divorce because we separated for a long time and even during those times, I tried to find out if things could work out but he was no longer interested. We were married for just a year.” naij
