Katy Perry has spoken for the first time about her feud with Taylor Swift, insisting the 27-year-old singer "started it".
The beef between the two stars is reported to have kicked off in 2012, when Katy started dating Taylor's ex John Mayer. Things were made even worse when Katy allegedly pinched three of Taylor's dancers for her tour, with her rival responding by releasing 'revenge' song Bad Blood in 2014.
When Katy released new song Swish Swish, the lyrics led fans to believe it may be referencing the alleged feud, which Katy opened up about during an appearance on Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday night (22May17).
"That's true, there is a situation," Katy told James. "Honestly, it's really like she started it and it's time for her to finish it."
Katy also claimed that she has "tried to talk to Taylor about it" to settle their difference, but had no joy on that front either.
"She wouldn't speak to me. I do the right thing anytime that it feels like a fumble. It was a full shut down and then she writes a song about me and I'm like 'OK, cool, cool, cool. That's how you wanna deal with it?'" Katy said, somewhat angrily.
Despite their issues, Katy is now ready for their problems to come to an end, telling James: "What I wanna say is that I'm ready for that B.S. (bulls**t) to be done. Now, there is the law of cause and effect. You do something and there's going to be a reaction. And trust me daddy, there's going to be a reaction. It's all about karma."
Clearly thrilled Katy was addressing such a contentious issue on his show, James pushed the 32-year-old singer to ask if she and Taylor would now be able to settle things.
But Katy refused to give much of an answer, instead replying: "I think personally that women together, not divided, and like none of this petty (bleeped out). Women together will heal the world."
James then asked whether a text from Taylor would be enough for her to "remove the beef from the grill", to which Katy responded: ""Yeah, absolutely. 100 per cent." music news.com
