Soludo finally joins the race

Its no longer news that the immediate past governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has finally joined the long list of those contesting the Anambra governorship race, after several months of speculations, horse trading and hide and seek. What perhaps many are oblivious of is the fact that several Nigerians, especially Soludo’s close associates and admirers are not in support of his new found passion in the constantly troubled politics of Anambra.
Part of their reasonable argument is that the respected professor of Economics should have laid low for now, instead of rushing to contest. They further argued that because of the fact that most of the banks he cleared and openly certified okay during his glamourous tenure at the CBN, are currently the ones discovered to be sick with huge and embarrassing debt portfolios, by the new no nonsense helmsman, Sanusi.
They also posited that instead of jumping into politics, Soludo should be in a sober mood, taking into cognizance the fact that most of his trusted bank chiefs, while he reigned supreme at the CBN, are still in EFFC’s custody, despite the temporary bail granted them.
To further worsen Soludo’s case, a group of angry youths from Anambra State, recently warned him to desist from joining the race to the government house in 2010.
Operating under the aegis of Anambra Youths for Reformed Leadership (AYRL), the group advised Soludo to consider global financial opportunities that would benefit him and Anambra people, rather than delving into the dirty politics of the State.
With over 40 aspirants jostling for the top job, including the incumbent, Peter Obi, observers, especially keen followers of events in the State, are waiting to see how far Soludo would go in the race. It has been widely alleged that Chief Anthony Anenih and a few moneybags are the forces propelling him. Time will definitely tell, especially now that, he has also paid and picked the guber form, through the help of a proxy.
