The Otunba Mike Adenuga-led national carrier, Globacom, has pledged
to collaborate with the organisers of the annual Lisabi Festival and make it
bigger and better than the previous editions.
The week-long festival kicks off
on Monday, February 24, 2014 at Abeokuta.
In a statement released by Globacom,
the company said: “We have commenced pre-festival roadshows and town-storms to
sensitize people to attend the Lisabi Festival in consonance with our tradition
of ensuring successful organization of the festival. Part of our preparations
for the festival includes enhancing the aesthetics of the city of Abeokuta and
environs and supporting the round robin stages of the Lisabi football
competition.”
To ensure quality attendance, the statement
further enjoined Egba indigenes at home and in the diaspora to begin
preparations in earnest and devise ways to contribute meaningfully to the
success of 2014 Lisabi Festival which marks a watershed in their history as
they celebrate the centenary celebration of Egba National Independence.
The
Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo,
CFR, described last year’s Lisabi Festival as unique because of the new
found unity and rapprochement amongst Egba Traditional Rulers.

coronet Kings attended the festival which theme was aptly tagged Retaining
the Girl Child in School. The
paramount ruler used the occasion of the last festival to encourage parents to
give university education to girls, adding that secondary education was now
inadequate for a child to lead qualitative life.
During his speech at the festival last year, the Alake thanked
Globacom for adding value to Lisabi Festival since it took over the sponsorship
with the introduction of
many creative programmes that resonate with the people and called on Egba
indigenes to continue to encourage the company by patronising its services.
The Lisabi Festival is an annual
celebration of freedom from oppression and dominance championed by the Egba progenitor,
Lisabi Agbongboakala and a rallying point for indigenes to harness ideas on how
to further the development of the entire Egbaland.
Events like Football, Ayo, Quiz and
Debate competitions among the five local governments that constitute Egbaland
will complement the usual traditional programmes of the festival
