Lucky and Dupe when the going was good |
A 30-year-old woman, Dupe Ikharia, whose legs
were allegedly crushed by her husband, Corporal Lucky Ikharia, on October 30,
has died in the hospital.
Our correspondent learnt that Dupe died at about
6.30pm on Friday, November 7, after her condition worsened at a traditional
orthopedic hospital in Mushin, Lagos.
PUNCH Metro had reported last week that
Lucky allegedly used a bus to crush his wife after they had an argument over
N2, 000.
After leaving his wife for dead, Lucky was said
to have returned to their home where he stabbed their one-year-old son, David,
to death and ripped out his intestines.
Lucky was also said to have stabbed himself in an
attempt to take his own life but survived the attack and was later arrested.
Dupe’s condition, it was learnt, continued to
worsen and on Thursday morning, she was said to have fainted.
At the hospital, a nurse told our correspondent
that Dupe’s spinal cord and one of the bones around her neck were also affected
by the incident, and had worsened her case.
Confirming his sister’s death to our
correspondent on the telephone, Dupe’s elder brother, Mr. Segun Akiode, said
the family had earlier gone to the office of the state Commissioner of Police,
Cornelius Aderanti, on Friday afternoon to submit a petition.
He said, “She has died. She passed on at about
6.30pm. That is where I am now. We went to the CP’s office in the afternoon,
and he responded to us very well. He directed us to meet with an officer at the
appropriate quarters. Unfortunately, Dupe is dead now, and the whole family is
in sorrow.”
Akiode added that when the family, however, went
to the SCID in Yaba, they were told that Lucky was not in their custody.
“When we went to the SCID on Saturday, they told
us that they did not have any suspect by that name. I still do not know the
whereabouts of the man. Meanwhile, we have taken Dupe to the morgue in Yaba,”
he said.
When contacted on Lucky’s whereabouts, the Lagos
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, said he would get
back to our correspondent. He, however, had not replied as of press time.
