GUS 6 berths with Horn of Valour




With a refreshingly new concept, the season six of the Gulder Ultimate Search (GUS), Nigeria’s foremost reality TV show has berthed with so many goodies for its youthful contestants. This year’s edition tagged: Horn of Valour, is expected to stretch man to the very limit of his endurance. Amazingly, it would be set within the undulating plains of the Omodo Forest, Ada, Osun State. In the words of Mr. Yusuf Ageni, the Corporate Affairs Adviser of Nigerian Breweries plc, proud sponsors of the hunt, during a recent media briefing, the search is not for the faint hearted. “It is believed that the secret message on the horn is the only solution that can change the destiny of the world. Hence, these men will battle against nature and wild life”.
Meanwhile, the daily highlights will be telecast beginning from July 18 to August 7, 2009, on national and satellite TV stations.
As usual, entry to the search is free alongside a rigorous selection process that will have a national spread. The form is available on www.gulderultimatesearch.tv
Also, the cities of Lagos, Enugu, Owerri, Benin, Abuja and Jos, have been selected as the regional zones for the physical screenings. The final screening where the lucky ten finalists would be selected holds in Lagos. Meanwhile, the Ultimate man/woman is expected to walk home with a cash prize of N7Million, half a million Naira worth of wardrobe allowance and a brand new SUV worth N10Million. Also, the last woman standing gets an additional NI Million. There are also mouth-watering prizes for the remaining nine contestants. The organizers have also promised the highest standard of safety, health and security during the period of the 21-day hunt.

Etiaba fetes Anambra stars in Nollywood

In fact, it was the constellation of stars recently when Barrister Emeka Etiaba, the governorship candidate of APGA in next year’s election in Anambra State hosted all the Nollywood screen personalities and filmmakers from the State, to a lavish dinner.
The well-attended event held amid glitz and blitz at the upscale Golden Gate Hotel, Ikoyi, Lagos, with several captains of industry from the State, also in attendance.
Tagged: Next Level and beautifully anchored by top actor, Bob Manuel Udokwu with comedy from Klint D’ Drunk, both great sons of the State.
Speaking at the historic gathering, Mr. Etiaba, whose mother is the current deputy governor of the State, also called on all Nollywood practitioners from Anambra to support and work with him for the actualization of his dream of governing the State next year.
He further revealed that if elected, his administration would build a film village and other centres that would further boost entertainment activities in the State. He also promised to give priorities to health, education, agriculture, security, sports, clean environment and good network of roads. Amiable Etiaba, further added that it was time to move Anambra State to the next level and also allow it function effectively and efficiently, as the second most urbanized State in the federation.
The intimidating roll call from Nollywood include: Ngozi Ezeonu, Jennifer Eliogu, Oge Okoye, Charles Okafor, Ejike Metu, Larry Koldsweat, Zulu Adigwe, Ebere Okaro, Benita Nzeribe, Ernest Obi, Adaora Ukoh, Chinwe Egwuatu and Teco Benson. Others are: Obi Madubogwu, Chigozie Atuanya, Ikechukwu Onyeka, Donald Okoli, Gabosky, Stanley Ebonine, Obiageli Molube, Queen Lott Onu, Sandra Ejikeme, Tony one Week and many others. Aside the mouth-watering dinner, some stars also asked pertinent questions and made comments, which were all properly responded to, by Mr. Etiaba, in his remarks. Also, the members of the Association for Better Anambra in Nollywood (ABAN), were fully represented and recognized at the epoch - gathering.

J-e-e-z! Despite the global financial crunch, more and more babies are still being sired in tinsel town. Just few weeks after the arrival of Obey Etuk’s baby boy, top actress Jennifer Eliogu, has followed suit, in the baby making competition currently rocking Nollywood. Her bundle of joy, we reliably gathered was delivered over the weekend, thus making her a mother of two. Also learnt that mother and the new boy are cool and already cuddling each other. Whao!
Also rejoicing and thanking the good Lord is the reigning Nigeria Music Award (NMA) best highlife musician, Ugo Stevenson. His amiable wife recently brought forth, a baby boy into their family, a fortnight ago. Mother and child are said to be in tip-top shape, in their Owerri, Imo State home.
In a related development, Stevenson, who is still basking in the euphoria of the new baby, is now poised for his long awaited show.

Gbenga Adeyinka still mourning

You must have heard that Gbenga Adeyinka the First, one of the leading Comedians of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFR), is still sad and mourning the sudden demise of his dear mother, who departed last week?
Gathered that heart broken Adeyinka, has even gone out of circulation because of the impact of what befell him.
But in order to bring him back to his jovial self, colleagues and friends, have been visiting to commiserate and cheer him up over the irreparable loss.
So, when next you see him looking forlorn and dejected, try and console him over the big loss.
We will also keep you darling readers posted, as soon as bereaved Adeyinka and his entire family members decide to make public, the burial plan of their late mum.


Friends celebrate Ahmed Yerima @ 52

Associates, friends and well-wishers came out en masse on Monday, May 25, 2009, to celebrate and rejoice with Ahmed Yerima, the Director General of the National Theatre/National Troupe of Nigeria, on the occasion of his 52nd birthday.
The colourful gathering, which held at the Cinema Hall 2, National Theatre, Lagos, also witnessed the presentation of his new book, Discourse On Tragedy, as well as the command performance of Mojagbe, which was directed by Otun Rasheed and performed by students of the Creative Arts department of University of Lagos.
The book, which was reviewed by Dr. Gbemisola Remi Adeoti, is an overview of the various definitions and studies on tragedy, it also probes deeply into classical and contemporary sources, such as: Aristotle, Sophocles, Arthur Miller, Bertolt Brecht, Wole Soyinka, Ola Rotimi, Zulu Sofola, Femi Osofisan and numerous others. In the words of Yerima, the book is a unique and timeless addition to the corpus of world dramatic literatures. “ It is a must read.”Ahmed Yerima, a man of many parts, is a playwright, dramatist and cultural administrator was born on
May 8, 1957. He trained at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), University College, Cardiff and the Royal Holloway and Bradford New College, England. Yerima who has acted, written and directed a number of plays, and also taught theatre studies at the University of Ife and the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria before his appointment into the National Troupe of Nigeria in 1991, first as Deputy Artistic Director and later in August 2000, as Artistic Director. His published plays include: The Silent Gods, Kaffir'’s Last Game, The Bishop and The Soul, Thank You Lord, The Trials of Oba OvonranwenJ Attahiru, The Sick People, The Sisters, Tafida, Hard Ground (winner of the NLNG Prize for Literature 2006 and ANA/J.P. Clarke Prize 2006), Yemoja and others He is a visiting Professor and consultant on curriculum development to a number of Universities within and outside the country, Professor Yerima was pioneer CEO of the Abuja Carnival Management
Team as well as the Director General of the Abuja Carnival 2008.
