MTN Fame Academy season 2 kicks off

In line with its promise of bringing music closer to the people, especially youths, the MTN XtraCool, which is also the youth brand of the MTN Nigeria, has further reinforced its ownership of music in Nigeria and the West African sub-region with the recent launch of the second edition of its music reality TV show, Project Fame West Africa. The classy launch held at the Planet One Entertainment, Lagos. According to the Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, MTN Nigeria, Mr Bola Akingbade, the telecom company is bringing it to the teeming Nigerian youth population and television viewers nationwide to meet their passion, while providing an opportunity for total family entertainment and a chance to discover and nurture youthful talents. Akingbade further posited thus: “Music correctly taps into the passion points of youths since it is a common means of self expression gratification, hence the need to provide a world class cutting edge music programme that meets the needs and aspirations of this dynamic segment. This is in accordance with our stand to provide innovative products and services that suits the individuality of our subscribers.” Unlike similar programmes, MTN Project Fame West Africa has a transformative impact on the selected youths. The reality element of the programme gives it an addictive viewing edge, with fair voting opportunity. It also boasts of world-class production standards from Endemol and Ultima. The programme, which is currently enjoyed in over 15 nations, presents huge opportunities to harness the abundant musical talents in the country. All students selected for the Project Fame Academy must be able to play musical instruments, write their own songs and perform, and are giving room to showcase different genres and styles of performances. In the academy where they are housed until voted out, they are trained by leading music experts. At the end of the show, a winner and two runners up will emerge. It would be recalled that the inaugural edition of MTN Project Fame West Africa produced Inyanya Mbuk, from Cross River State as the winner. He won a brand new Toyota RAV 4 and N2.5 million cash prize. Inyanya has since launched a successful music career with his two singles enjoying the best of airplay within and outside the country. Ghana’s Nii Ankra, the first runner, won a brand new Toyota Corolla and N2 million. Praise Adejo and Annette Cookey both of Nigeria went home a 2008 model Toyota Yaris plus N1.5 million, and N1 million as second and third runners-up respectively.

Play Vibez Africa goes on air

Blue Screen production, a renowned radio and TV outfit based in Nigeria, in its untiring efforts to discover, promote and celebrate Nigeria and Africa’s most talented entertainment icons as well as the up and coming ones, has concluded plans to berth with Play Vibez Africa, on air.The 30-minute weekly programme, according to youthful Peter Atigogo, its producer/ presenter, is primarily out to showcase highly entertaining events, inform and also educate its teeming viewers about their favourite celebrities.“Its an in depth show with uniqueness and style that will on a weekly basis lead viewers into the brilliant achievement/life style of Nigerian and African entertainment icons, celebrity events, fashion and tourism. While doing the above, it would also seek to encourage hard work and dignity of labour among the youths. Play Vibez, will also feature musical videos, celebrity news and tit-bits about the industry as well as personalities”.Speaking further, Mr. Atigogo, disclosed that the programme, which is set to hit the airwaves in a fortnight, comes in five segments. They include: the up-close-personal/celebrity interviews, under grounding /up and coming artistes interviews, events/top celebrity events, hang-outs/club, fun spots, sight and sound/tourism and hospitality.Play Vibez, in the words of Atigogo and his team, would be aired on 35 local TV stations and five cable stations on five continents, when fully operational. “Our dream is to make this programme a multinational brand with a viewership that cuts across a spectrum of several millions of people, including the young at heart and the family, which is the driving force of every society. We are also calling on corporate bodies to buy into this laudable initiative.”

Ugo Emezue shines @ TVC

Since 1992, when easy going Ugo Emezue graduated from the English and Literature department of the Abia State University, he has not stopped dazzling the media world. Emezue who started his journalism career with Galaxy TV, Ibadan, Oyo State before moving over to DBN Lagos and later Abuja, as the station’s head of news / bureau Chief, at a very tender age, no doubt had seen it all in the saturated industry.After single-handedly bringing verve and vim to the station, always-on-the move Emezue eventually left DBN for STV, where he also rose to the position of head of news, within a short stint with the media outfit. He successfully capped his stay at the station when he became the presenter of the popular and flagship political programme, Head-to-Head, as well as a member of their editorial board. Emezue, who was among the few Nigerian journalists that covered the last US presidential elections, is now with TVC, where he heads their Current Affairs Desk and also presents Fireworks, a wave-making political programme, every Thursday night, to the delight of his teeming viewers and fans.In fact, the joke in town is that having traversed the major electronic media houses in Nigeria, Emezue, might soon be jetting out to further horn his media skills with either the CNN or Sky News. Time will surely tell.

Kate Effiong, Efret Moses find missing ribs

This definitely cheering news for their teeming fans as well as family members too. Amiable Nollywood actress Kate Effiong finally found her missing rib in dandy Wale Okunnu, and they together walked down the aisle, ala the traditional way on May 1, 2009 in Lagos.The reception was well attended by Effiong’s pals within and outside Nollywood. The date for the white wedding, according to the newest couple in town, would soon be made public.Interestingly too, while Effiong and her Romeo, are already enjoying their honeymoon, bad boy actor and leading model, Moses Efret, is also hooked.
According to a reliable insider, Emma, a Cameroonian, is the lucky lady that has finally captured the heart and soul of Mr. Efret. The solemnization of the union held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Household of Faith Parish, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, while reception follows immediately at the Union Bank Sports Complex, in the same vicinity.

PR Impekable woos Nollywood singles

After successfully hosting the maiden edition of the Wedding Exhibitions, Show and Awards Night in 2008, PR Impekable, publishers of the wedding planner magazine, is poised for another milestone outing this 2009.Tagged: Nigeria/International Wedding Week, Gala and Awards Nite, the grand gathering is expected to hold elaborately between the months of September and October, at a yet-to-be-fixed posh venue.In the words of the organizers, they would be reaching out to several spinsters and bachelors in Nollywood, for the event. “Just like last year’s event, we also intend using the coming event to bring together hopeful brides and grooms, parents and all service providers in the industry. Through this kind of laudable initiatives from Shades of Green, our planning outfit, we have been able to provide world class ideas and solutions for the industry, thus making wedding plans very easy”.Meanwhile, Beyond Wedding magazine, the latest addition from the stable of PR Impekable, is already making waves on the newsstands as well as enjoying rave reviews.According to Duupe Adeniran, its Editor-in-Chief, it was designed to help nurture new marriages and sustain growing ones.She added that they would soon be coming out with a TV programme, seminars and lots of other wedding oriented packages, mostly for celebrities.The bi-monthly magazine is a complete guide for wedding plans, and has published 21 editions, since inception four years ago.
