A statement sent to SHOWBIZPLUSng stated that the project billed to
happen first on twitter by 7pm with the hashtags #T180comedy and
#Top180Comedians is put together and compiled by a PR and research firm,
Penparazzi in collaboration with Ediale Writes Inc.
The organizers of the project have also expressed the process with which they arrived at the list. Ediale Kingsley, an entertainment editor with National Daily Newspaper and the project leader said the list is based on the result from questioning of 4000 social media users, 2600 comedy buffs, 700 comedy show attendants, 340 blackberry users, 220 whatsapp contacts, 15 comedy reporters, 10 entertainment journalists.
Dennis Okosun speaking for Penparazzi said, "It has become necessary to rank the comedians because there are so many charlatans among them who have no business in the comedy or entertainment industry. The time has come for comedy to be left for those who are talented, gifted and have the undiluted jokes to share that are capable of relieving one of the day's stress rather than adding more stress through their half-baked jokes. I think the industry should be regulated as every tom, dick and harry is finding his/her way into it".
