MIRROR OF BEAUTY, the historic African epic love story that was produced by Andrien Gbinigie’s led Atlantic Overseas Limited won the award for the Best Music Score at the recently held African Movie Academy Awards-AMAA. The pan-African awards night took place in Abuja, the federal capital territory of Nigeria, amid glitz, glamour and razzmatazz.
The intrigues and suspense filled movie, which was shot on 35mm, defeated other equally good movies like: White waters, Cash Money, Run Baby Run and Black Friday to cart home the prized plaque in that keenly contested category.
Mission To Nowhere, another action-packed movie jointly produced by Atlantic Overseas and TFP Global Network also won an award at AMAA. Uju Okeke, an up and coming actress, who dazzled in the 35mm movie won in the Best upcoming Actress category.
Mirror of Beauty, which had shown in big cinemas across Europe and Africa, has also been selected for this year’s edition of the forthcoming Cannes International film festival in France.
It is a movie that depicts the real African settings and cultural background with rich costumes, make-up and well-rendered traditional music.
In the movie’s synopsis, the sudden death of the Igwe (traditional ruler) of Amanze village throws the royal household into mourning and chaos. Consequently, it becomes imperative for Ugegbe, the princess to choose a husband in order to save the situation.
Meanwhile, Ejike, the only son of a wretched widow, consumed by his ambition to marry the princess gets his fingers burnt, thus throwing Ugegbe into confusion.
The twisted story takes another dimension when Ugegbe’s choice of a husband turns out to be a ghost.
Directed by Okey Zubelu Okoh, Mirror of Beauty stars some of the biggest names in Nolywood. Among them are: Olu Jacobs, Mike Ezuronye, Chika Ike, Amaechi Muonagor and Ebere Okaro.
