Cast of Coloured Girls |
Leading Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele will clash on stage with some of her
colleagues including, Osas Ighodaro, Carol King, Oreka Godis among others when
the Nigerian adaption of the stage play “For
Coloured Girls who have considered Suicide/when the rainbow is Enuf”
holds on June 15, 2014 at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel & Suites,
Victoria Island, Lagos.

gathered the event is being put together by Flytyme Entertainment and will be directed by award winning
Playwright/ stage director, Wole
Oguntokun.
Produced
by ´Keke Hammond, the
multi-award winning play written by Ntozake
Shange, premiered first on Nigerian stage in December 2011 to critical acclaim, bringing together some of the
best actors in the country before a cumulative crowd of more than 4000
people.
For Coloured Girls, an
amazing story of all women
features seven of the country’s most talented actresses. They include: Carol King, Funke Akindele, Osas
Ighodaro, Matilda Obaseki, Oreka Godis, Diana Yekinni and Ade Laoye.
Speaking
about her involvement in the play, Carol
King says: “Being a Coloured Girl goes beyond skin colour. For me, it
represents the travails every girl-child goes through and the fortitude needed
for her individual journey to womanhood”. Osas Ighodaro added: “To be an artistic voice today and directly
or indirectly touching base with past and current issues concerning all women
and the girl-child means the world to me.”
Oreka Godis who
seems to be in high spirit for the stage play hinted: "For Coloured Girls,
in Nigeria this year, is amazing timing as being a voice and an inspiration to
the girl-child all over the world is so important.
