Abuse of power: Bold blogger who criticised CDS, Alex Badeh over poor handling of B’Haram in Mubi, alleges threat to his life

A bold, courageous blogger and social commentator, Elvis Iyorngurum, has alleged threat to his life following his scathing criticism of the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshall Alex Badeh, in a blog post.

Iyorngurum had alleged in a write-up entitled, “A Lesson for All Nigerians,” posted on an online platform, newsrescue.com, last week that Badeh sent helicopters to evacuate his family members from Mubi, Adamawa State shortly before a Boko Haram attack.

“Before that sad day, someone from Mubi would have boasted that the Chief of Defence Staff is from their home town. But on the day that it mattered the most, he (Badeh) evacuated only his family members and abandoned everyone else to their fate.

As the battle between the Nigerian military and the outlawed Islamic sect, Boko Haram, intensified in Adamawa State, some Army officers have accused their counterparts in the Air Force for bombarding checkpoints manned by Army.

One of the soldiers, who spoke on condition of anonymity to our correspondent on Monday in Yola, said “ We are 17 in number, manning checkpoints on the Mubi side, when an Air Force plane drop bombs on us. We all fled the area. Up until now, I cannot say where my colleagues are, because we ran in different directions.

Six military commanders, including an injured Lieutenant Colonel, have been arrested by the military for withdrawing from Mararaba, Michika, Madagali, Mubi and later Vimtim when Boko Haram insurgents attacked the communities last week.

It was learnt that   an unspecified number of soldiers were also in detention for allegedly abandoning the communities, thereby making it easy for the insurgents to have an upper hand.

No fewer than 300 Nigerian soldiers fled to Cameroon when Boko Haram insurgents overran Mubi, the second largest city in Borno State from security forces on Wednesday, SHOWBIZPLUSng has learnt.

Cameroonian military sources told our correspondent that Nigerian soldiers fled the north-eastern part of Nigeria, where the insurgency launched by the sect was raging, and crossed the Nigeria-Cameroon border.

Gory: Civilian JTF beheads 41 Boko Haram fighters

Forty one members of the Islamic fundamentalist group, Boko Haram, were beheaded by the vigilante group in a Borno village, Gur, it was gathered on Friday.

A member of the youth vigilance group in the area, Mala Yusuf, recounted that after a failed attack on Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno state, a combined team of military men and members of the vigilance group otherwise known as Civilian JTF, went after the insurgents and killed 41 of them.

The Defence Headquarter has denied the alleged release of the Chibok girls.

In a tweet on Tuesday evening on its Twitter  handle @DefenceInfoNG, it wrote, “The Story circulating in respect of release of the #Chibok girls is untrue. Buses drove into the barracks but conveyed other individuals. RT”.
