Bayelsa Gov, Dickson |
Despite the state government’s denial and calculated media campaign to
clear its already soiled name and image, the All Progressives Congress
(APC) in Bayelsa State, has insisted that it stands by its story that the Governor
Seriake Dickson-led administration in the state wasted and squandered over
N2billion to host the recently held tenth edition of the Africa Movie Academy
Awards (AMAA)
The APC in a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Fortune
Panebi, and obtained by SHOWBIZPLUSng, described AMAA as an “erected conduit”
through which scarce public funds were drained. The party cried that the funds which would have been used to tackle underdevelopment in the state and alleviate the sufferings of the electorate were expended to the advantage of a few.
The statement read in part: “Governor Seriake Dickson, who was a major critic of AMAA when he was in the National Assembly is yet to identify that the state has not made any progress, neither has it reaped any corresponding benefit for all that it has expended in the hosting of AMAA over the past 10 years.
“This is a noisy carouse. We condemn the wastage, particularly at a time when the government has confessed of economic hardship confronting the state and its inability to meet with genuine rights and privileges of civil servants.
“We therefore demand convincing explanations from the state government on existing tourism sites that should warrant the continuous hosting of AMAA and the commensurate gains people of the state have derived so far.”
