Ebola: Ghana bans flights from Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia


 
Ghana has officially banned flights from four West African countries, citing concerns about the rapid spread of the Ebola virus, which has claimed over 600 lives.
Charles Asare, Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company, said the measure was part of a set of emergency management plans officials are rolling out to combat the spread of the virus. The affected countries include Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Nigeria.
The government there has also implemented strict restrictions on the movement and management of Liberian refugees in camps in the country.

Another messy war of words is currently brewing between the National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ms Ibinabo Fiberesima and some leading stakeholders in the nation’s motion picture industry over her unguarded statements on the controversial MOPPICON bill.
In fact, two months ago Fiberesima raised the curiosity of stakeholders in the movie industry after she dropped a hint that the draft of the long awaited Motion Picture Practitioners Council of Nigeria bill, (MOPPICON) would be returned to them for onward review and possible approval.

Doping: Amalaha stripped of gold

Nigeria teenager Chika Amalaha has been stripped of her Commonwealth Games weightlifting gold medal after failing a doping test.
The 16-year-old, who won the women’s 53kg competition, provided positive “A” and “B” samples that contained prohibited diuretics and masking agents.
“The Commonwealth Games Federation has determined that Nigerian weightlifter, Chika Amalaha, has committed an anti-doping rule violation and has fully suspended her from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow,” the CGF said in a statement.

“It is no secret that the last 12 months have been the most turbulent of my music career. With regards to the lingering issues about which I have been mute, I, Olanrewaju Ogunmefun popularly known to you as Vector Tha Viper, wish to state the following;
“YSG Entertainment Ltd without any doubt, gave me the platform to show case my talent to the world. It is true we had misunderstandings on issues concerning my engagement with them.  There’s an existing Federal High Court injunction preventing me from doing what I love to do and this serves me and my fans no good. However, we have entered into a settlement to have the injunction lifted,” he wrote.
