On Sunday, December 28, entertainment entrepreneur and boss of O'Jez celebrity restaurants, Joseph Odobeatu will clock 50 years on earth.
SHOWBIZPLUSng gathered that several events have been lined up to celebrate the business mogul as he clocks the golden age. A family get together will hold at his home in Anthony on December 26, Boxing Day, while the D-Day, 28 will begin with a thanksgiving mass at St’ Dominic Catholic Church, Yaba, Lagos.
The birthday party will begin immediately at his Anthony home till late into the night.
Also, this year’s O’Jez Xmas Blast concert, scheduled to hold on January 4 at the celebrity restaurant, inside the National Stadium premises from 7pm, will be a continuation of the birthday celebration.

Veteran musician, Mandators recounts how police tortured, detained him ... Demands N1bn compensation




Veteran musician and international artiste, Victor Essiet of the Mandators Group, has narrated how operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad allegedly tortured him while he was preparing for a concert at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
He said during his ordeal, his private parts were pulled by four of the 20 man squad, who also cut through his fingers and legs with shackles.
The singer said the harassment and torture cost him his November music festival which he said he invested about N200m in.

Copyright infringement: Lagos Oriental Hotel in trouble as COSON tells musicians, stakeholders to boycott them

Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), the nation’s sole government approved copyright collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings, has asked all musicians, music industry operatives and stakeholders in the creative sector to begin an immediate boycott of Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island. The decision to begin the boycott was unanimously ratified by the hundreds of COSON members who thronged Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja recently for the Extra-Ordinary General Meeting of COSON at which a royalty distribution of N90 million to musicians in the country was approved.

Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) has announced that its Extra-Ordinary General Meeting (EGM) will take place on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at the Oranmiyan Hall, Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The main agenda of the meeting is for members to pass a resolution to approve this year’s distribution of music copyright royalties after which distribution shall commence immediately.

Copyright war: How federal high court sealed MCSN’s fate

Any hope of the unapproved Musical Copyright Society of Nigeria (MCSN) that it will be allowed to operate legally in Nigeria as a copyright Collective Management Organization (CMO) has been buried by the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.


In a landmark ruling by Hon Justice O.E. Abang on October 24, 2014, the court threw out the case filed by MCSN in which it had sought an order of the Federal High Court restraining Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON) from parading itself as Nigeria’s sole collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings.

Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON), the nation’s sole collective management organization for musical works and sound recordings has filed an application at the Federal High Court, Lagos requesting the court to issue an order of interlocutory injunction restraining NTA-Star TV Network Ltd, owners of Startimes, the pay TV platform, whether by itself or its officials, privies, servants, agents or howsoever called from broadcasting, rebroadcasting or communicating to the public on any channel on its platform any musical work and/or sound recording belonging to COSON, its members or affiliates pending the determination of the issues in Suit No. FHC/CS/1149/14.
