The fourth
edition of the In-Short International Film Festival recently held at the
upscale Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos amid applause and commendations.
Mbanefo at the festival |
SHOWBIZPLUSng gathered that the hugely
attended festival held in collaboration with Access Bank Plc, the International
Film and Broadcast Academy (IFBA) and Goethe Institut, Lagos, respectively.
In a
chat with SHOWBIZPLUSng, Victor Okhai, Founder/Festival Director, asserted that
In-Short is an intervention borne out of the need to groom young talents in
film-making and is glad that several of these youth are becoming beacons of
hope in the ever expanding African cinema.
The opening
ceremony was graced by the DG of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation,
Sally Mbanefo, who commended the coordinators of the festival for building a
platform where young people can hone their resourcefulness. Mbanefo
pledged to support the film festival by setting up periodic meetings that will
further sharpen the creativity of these young talents through the In-Short
International Film Festival.
At the closing
ceremony, a special award was given to Access Bank Plc, for its CSR programmes,
leading to the sponsorship of the 2014 In-Short International Film Festival.
Interestingly, 84 short films from different genres were selected for this year’s
festival out of which 25 were presented for adjudication. The jury
observed that the films are satisfactory proof of the enthusiasm that short
films are generating in Africa, but then noted that the entries in the
documentary category this year fell short of expectations and so did not award
any prize in that category.
